An Allele of Glutamate Formiminotransferase Triggers 5‐Methyl‐Tetrahydrofolate‐to‐MeFox Conversion and Facilitates Folate Biofortification in Maize

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates the distinct roles of the glutamate formiminotransferase (GFT) enzyme in plants. The GFT triggers the conversion of 5‐methyl‐tetrahydrofolate to MeFox in plants, a process distinct from its role as a formiminotransferase in mammals.

Nicotine Reprograms Aging‐Related Metabolism and Protects Against Motor Decline in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Long‐term oral nicotine intake protects against age‐related motor decline in mice without eliciting systemic toxicity. Integrated multi‐organ metabolomic profiling and longitudinal gut microbiota analyses reveal that nicotine induces coordinated remodeling of glycolipid and sphingolipid metabolism, enhances NAD⁺ bioavailability, and suppresses ceramide

Homeostasis of Gut Microbiota Protects against Susceptibility to Fungal Pneumonia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fungal pneumonia induces inflammation, shown by heightened IL‐6, IL‐1β, TNF‐α levels and a growth in Staphylococcus in the alveolar flora. The gut microbiota, acting through the gut‐lung axis via blood, impacts fungal pneumonia susceptibility by altering lung metabolism and inflammatory responses.

Cuproptosis Signature Would Reveal the Acute‐Remitting Pattern in Patients with Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) has distinct acute‐remitting courses but lacks biomarkers for predicting relapse. Recent studies found cuproptosis‐related genes affect its course, and a model built accordingly can predict relapse to aid intervention.

Human iPSC‐Derived Mononuclear Phagocytes Improve Cognition and Neural Health across Multiple Mouse Models of Aging and Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Short‐term intravenous treatments with iPSC‐derived mononuclear phagocytes (iMPs) improve cognitive decline and neural health in two mouse models of aging and in the 5xFAD mouse model of Alzheimer's disease. iMPs reduce levels of serum amyloid proteins that increase in aging and improve the health of hippocampal microglia and mossy cells.
