Uncovering the Potent Antiviral Activity of the Sesterterpenoids from the Sponge Ircinia Felix Against Human Adenoviruses: from the Natural Source to the Total Synthesis

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 30, Issue 66, November 26, 2024.
Isolation, structure elucidation, biological activity, and total synthesis of ircinialactam J, a novel sesterterpene lactam produced by the sponge Ircinia felix, is presented. Ircinialactam J displays a significant antiviral activity against Human Adenoviruses (11 times more active than cidofovir®) without cytotoxicity.

Leveraging traits for insight into the fungal ecology of burned ecosystems

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 15, Issue 11, November 2024.
Abstract Fungi play key roles in the fire‐fuel feedbacks that structure ~40% of the Earth's terrestrial ecosystems, yet a general understanding of fungal responses to fire is lacking. While fire and associated stressor effects on fungi vary based on fire regime components like severity, intensity, and frequency, their influence on fungi can be ...

Synthesis and Analysis of (γ,γ’,γ’’‐Trifluoro)neopentyl (TFNP) Aryl Ethers as a Polar Fluoroaliphatic Motif

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 30, Issue 57, October 11, 2024.
(γ,γ’,γ’’‐Trifluoro)neopentyl (TFNP) aryl ethers are prepared as a new motif from tosylate 3. The motif has a preferred ‘propellar’ conformation which can adopt left or right handed twists. LogP's are lower than tert‐butyl analogues. Interactions between TFNP groups in the solid state are shown to also anchor supramolecular architectures.
