Electron Correlation and High-Temperature Superconductivity

open access: yesCondensed Matter
Strong electron correlation plays a central role in the high-temperature superconductivity (HTSC) of cuprates. However, to date, research has focused only on its role in spin dynamics and related effects, even though it is becoming increasingly clear ...

Superconductivity in the cuprates

open access: yes, 1994
We evaluate numerically several superconducting correlation functions in a generalized $t-J$ model derived for hole-doped CuO$_2$ planes. The model includes a three-site term $t''$ similar to that obtained in the large $U$ limit of the Hubbard model but of opposite sign for realistic O-O hopping.

Universal precursor of superconductivity in the cuprates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Using torque magnetometry, we reveal remarkably simple universal behavior of the superconducting (SC) precursor in the cuprates by tracking the nonlinear diamagnetism above Tc in four distinct compounds: singleCuO2-layerHgBa2CuO4+δ,La 2−xSrxCuO4 andBi2 ...

Two-Carrier Description of Cuprate Superconductors from NMR

open access: yesCondensed Matter
Cuprates currently hold the record for the highest temperature superconductivity at ambient pressure, but the microscopic understanding of these materials remains elusive. Here, we utilize nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data of planar oxygen and copper

Charge transport in underdoped bilayer cuprates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Within the t-J model, we study the charge transport in underdoped bilayer cuprates by considering the bilayer interaction. Although the bilayer interaction leads to the band splitting in the electronic structure, the qualitative behavior of the charge ...

Impurity band Mott insulators: a new route to high Tc superconductivity

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2008
Last century witnessed the birth of semiconductor electronics and nanotechnology. The physics behind these revolutionary developments is certain quantum mechanical behaviour of 'impurity state electrons' in crystalline 'band insulators', such as Si, Ge ...

Dynamic charge order from strong correlations in the cuprates

open access: yesFrontiers in Electronic Materials
Charge order has been a central focus in the study of cuprate high-temperature superconductors due to its intriguing yet not fully understood connection to superconductivity. Recent advances in resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) in the soft x-ray

Sr2IrO4: Gateway to cuprate superconductivity?

open access: yesAPL Materials, 2015
High temperature superconductivity in cuprates remains a defining challenge in condensed matter physics. Recently, a new set of related compounds based on Ir rather than Cu has been discovered that may be on the verge of superconductivity themselves or ...

Atomic Resolution Electron Microscopy of Bismuth Cuprates [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Since the discovery of superconductivity in certain classes of cuprates, there has been much research activity aimed at understanding the structure, microstructure, electrical and other physical properties of these materials.

Hidden Ferronematic Order in Underdoped Cuprates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We study a model for low-doped cuprates where holes aggregate into oriented stripe segments which have a magnetic vortex and antivortex at the extremes.
