New textile fibre: Curaua

2016
Curaua fibres are leaf fibres extracted from an Amazon-forest plant (Ananas comosus var. erectifolius) closely related to the pineapple. There is evidence of successful use of curaua fibre in different areas, such as: reinforcing composite structures and products in the automobile industry, due the high mechanical resistance associated with low density

Hybridization effect on the mechanical and dynamic mechanical properties of curaua composites

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2011
a b s t r a c t This study aims to evaluate the performance of curaua/glass hybrid composites focusing on mechanical and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). Composites with distinct glass/curaua fiber loading ratios were studied. Flexural strength and modulus, impact strength and Barcol hardness increased for higher glass fiber content.

Composite Materials in Epoxy Resin Matrix Using Curaua Fibers

2020
Vegetable fibers have good mechanical properties, low density, no toxicity, are renewable and have low cost among other properties. The use of lignocellulosic fibers as reinforcement in polymeric composite materials in substitution of synthetic fibers is in the direction of sustainability.

Short beam strength of curaua, sisal, glass and hybrid composites

Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites, 2012
In this study, the short beam strength characteristics of randomly oriented composites were comprehensively investigated. The following parameters were varied: fiber used (curaua or sisal), fiber washing or surface chemical treatment with sodium hydroxide/sodium borohydride, fiber length (from 5 to 60 mm), hybridization with glass fiber and the pre ...

Effects of Fiber Treatment on the Properties of Epoxy Curaua-Reinforced Composites

2018
Natural fiber research is getting attention worldwide due to its sustainability and ecofriendly nature. It combines low density and interesting properties. Curaua fiber is an abundant natural fiber, which has low cost and several applications. The mechanical properties have a strong dependence on the interface adhesion between the fiber and the polymer

Thermal Analysis of Curaua Fiber Reinforced Epoxy Matrix Composites

2016
Thermoset polymers, like the epoxy, become harder with increasing temperature owing to molecular crosslink formation, which is a thermal benefit for composite matrix applications. Natural lignocellulosic fibers, however, have low thermal resistance and tend to degrade with increasing temperature.
