Preliminary investigation on auto-thermal extrusion of ground tire rubber [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Ground tire rubber (GTR) was processed using an auto-thermal extrusion as prerequisite to green reclaiming of GTR. The reclaimed GTR underwent a series of tests: thermogravimetric analysis combined with Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (TGA-FTIR),

Biocementation Influence on Flexural Strength and Chloride Ingress by Lysinibacillus sphaericus and Bacillus megaterium in Mortar Structures

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, 2020
The concrete/mortar durability performance depends mainly on the environmental conditions, the microstructures, and its chemistry. Cement structures are subject to deterioration by the ingress of aggressive media.

Lime stabilisation for earthworks: a UK perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Lime stabilisation is a versatile technique applied during earthworks operations. Modern soil recycling units are much more efficient at pulverising fill material and intermixing the added binder/water than machinery available 20 years ago.

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

Low-cost optical manipulation using hanging droplets of PDMS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We propose and demonstrate a low-cost optical micromanipulation system that makes use of simple microfrabricated components coupled to a smartphone camera for imaging. Layering hanging droplets of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) on microscope coverslips, and

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.
