Preliminary investigation on auto-thermal extrusion of ground tire rubber [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Ground tire rubber (GTR) was processed using an auto-thermal extrusion as prerequisite to green reclaiming of GTR. The reclaimed GTR underwent a series of tests: thermogravimetric analysis combined with Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (TGA-FTIR),

STAT3 expression is reduced in cardiac pericytes in HFpEF and its loss reduces cellular adhesion and induces pericyte senescence

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.

Potential of Orange Peel Ash as a Cement Replacement Material [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The potential of Orange peel ash (OPA) as a cement replacement material was investigated with focus on the effect of OPA content on the physicomechnical properties such as consistency, setting times, soundness, compressive and flexural strengths of OPA ...

Decoding the dual role of autophagy in cancer through transcriptional and epigenetic regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Transcriptional and epigenetic regulation controls autophagy, which exerts context‐dependent effects on cancer: Autophagy suppresses tumorigenesis by maintaining cellular homeostasis or promotes tumor progression by supporting survival under stress. In this “In a Nutshell” article, we explore the intricate mechanisms of the dual function of autophagy ...

Thermal curing of an epoxy-anhydride system modified with hyperbranched poly(ethylene imine)s with different terminal groups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
New hyperbranched polymers (HBP) have been synthesized by reaction of a poly(ethylene imine) with phenyl and t-butyl isocyanates. These HBPs have been characterized by 1H-NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance of hydrogen) and Fourier transform infrared ...

Autophagy in cancer and protein conformational disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Autophagy plays a crucial role in numerous biological processes, including protein and organelle quality control, development, immunity, and metabolism. Hence, dysregulation or mutations in autophagy‐related genes have been implicated in a wide range of human diseases.

Multifunctional Hard Yet Flexible Coatings Fabricated Using a Universal Step‐by‐Step Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2022
Hard yet flexible coatings with multi‐functionalities are useful for foldable displays and marine industries but rare. In this study, a highly cross‐linked multifunctional hybrid coating with ceramic‐like hardness and polymer‐like flexibility is reported.

Barrier Graphene Oxide on a CoCr Alloy via Silane/GO Covalent Bonding and Its Electrochemical Behavior in a Simulated Synovial Fluid Electrolyte

open access: yesMetals, 2023
In this work, impermeable and ultrathin surface nanomodifications for joint applications based on graphene oxide (GO) are assembled on CoCr surfaces via covalent immobilization between GO nanosheets and silane monolayers.

Restorative Dentistry: Dental composite depth of cure with halogen and blue light emitting diode technology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Objectives To test the hypothesis that a blue light emitting diode (LED) light curing unit (LCU) can produce an equal dental composite depth of cure to a halogen LCU adjusted to give an irradiance of 300 mWcm–2 and to characterise the LCU's light outputs.
