Novel Sensitive Current Differential Protection of Transmission Line

2008 Joint International Conference on Power System Technology and IEEE Power India Conference, 2008
This paper proposes a novel approach for sensitive current differential protection of transmission line. The improvement in sensitivity is a result of adaptive control of the restraining region in a current differential plane. The discriminant function used in differential protection corresponds to the ratio of series branch current in the pi ...

Current transformer saturation detectors for busbar differential protection

2007 42nd International Universities Power Engineering Conference, 2007
Busbar differential relays may operate incorrectly due to current transformer (CT) saturation. In this paper two different techniques are suggested to detect CT saturation. The first proposed algorithm is based on the fact that the wave shape of the CT secondary current is changed significantly at the instant of the saturation.

Compensated-current differential relay for protection of transformers

IEE Proceedings - Generation, Transmission and Distribution, 2004
During magnetic inrush or over-excitation, saturation of the core in a transformer draws a large excitation current, which can cause malfunction of a differential relay. The paper describes a solution, its implementation within a compensated-current differential relay and its evaluation using an EMTP-based simulator and a relay test set. The relay uses

A Novel Current Differential Protection Scheme for Powerformer

2006 International Conference on Power System Technology, 2006
This paper presents a novel differential protection of power former, a type of high-voltage graded insulated cable wound generator. The false differential current associated with the distributed capacitance of power former stator windings is analyzed.

Multi-zone current differential protection for transmission networks

2003 IEEE PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37495), 2004
The main idea of this paper is to combine the multi-zone operating features of a pilot aided distance scheme with the unit protection features of a current differential relay. The combination, a pilot aided multi-zone differential protection scheme can cope with main or primary relay failure, incorrect measured or communicated data and the problems ...

A transmission line current differential protection based on virtual restraint current

2015 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2015
Current differential protection widely used in transmission line based on comparing sum and difference of two side current phasors. Its sensitivity was impact by load current. A current differential protection based on virtual restraint current was proposed.

Simulation of a differential current protection scheme involving multiple current transformers

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2000
Differential protection schemes for busbars, generators or transformers connect multiple current transformers in parallel across a common burden. This paper describes the techniques used to simulate such an arrangement and concentrates particularly on the three current transformer case.

Effects of Geomagnetically Induced Currents on current transformer and differential protection

2013 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2013
Geomagnetically Induced Current (GIC) has long been recognized to influence current transformer (CT). Treated as quasi-DC, the effects of GIC haven't been discriminated from DC bias caused by High Voltage Direct Current transmission (HVDC). However, the nature of GIC as current with time-varying magnitude and random waveform makes it generate complex ...
