A Low Distortion, Current Feedback, Programmable Gain Amplifier

2005 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2005
A programmable gain amplifier (PGA) is designed in a 0.18 /spl mu/m CMOS process, which makes use of current feedback building blocks. The voltage gain of the PGA can be changed from 0 dB to +60 dB with 2 dB steps and has a -3 dB bandwidth of 20 MHz. The PGA exhibits better than -60 dB spurious free dynamic range (SFDR) over the entire gain range at a ...

Gradient Distortion Correction for Low Frequency Current Density Imaging

2006 International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2006
Current density imaging (CDI) is a technique that uses magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to measure the distribution of externally applied electric current inside tissues. However, GDI processing is rendered inaccurate by the distortion caused by the nonlinearity of MRI gradient fields. The distortion interferes with the proper registration and the curl

Harmonic Distortion in Switched Current Cells Due to Settling Error

Analog Integrated Circuits and Signal Processing, 2003
An analysis of the harmonic distortion in switched-current cells produced by the non-linear settling error is presented. Two approaches for computing the harmonic components are addressed: discrete-time Fourier series and power series expansion. They are based on the large signal behavior of the SI cell.

Improving the Accuracy of Current Transformers through Harmonic Distortion Compensation

2019 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC), 2019
It is common knowledge that conventional current transformers suffer from nonlinear effects due to the magnetization characteristics of their cores. Core saturation may occur because of large overcurrents or unidirectional transient components; however, weak nonlinear effects exist even during normal operation. The typical spectrum of current waveforms

A Novel Approach to Current Transformer Characterization in the Presence of Harmonic Distortion

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2009
The current transformer (CT) performance under distorted waveform conditions is usually characterized by means of the frequency-response test. In this paper, a new way to characterize CTs, closer to real operation conditions, is proposed. The harmonic phase-angle and ratio errors are measured using a nonsinusoidal current composed of fundamental and ...

Sources of Current and Voltage Distortion

Abstract The development in electronics and power electronics results that traditional loads, such as, for example, incandescent bulb-based lighting systems, meaning the linear ones, which do not cause harmonic distortion are superseded by current harmonics-generating loads.

Distortion in a semiconductor laser overmodulated by a sinusoidal current

IEEE MTT/ED/AP/LEO Societies Joint Chapter United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland Section. 1997 Workshop on High Performance Electron Devices for Microwave and Optoelectronic Applications. EDMO (Cat. No.97TH8305), 2002
When a semiconductor laser is overmodulated by a sinusoidal current, distortion occurs in the optical signal. Using a static limiter as a first model for the laser only permits a rough analysis of this effect. In order to describe the additional distortion arising when the optical intensity rises above threshold, an improved dynamic model is proposed ...

Tariffs and the Current Account: The Role of Initial Distortions

The Canadian Journal of Economics, 1990
From an initial position of laissez-faire, temporary tariffs have been shown to improve the current account. However, if tariffs are initially positive (as in many actual economies), temporary tariffs will magnify an existing distortion and therefore lower real income during protectionist periods.
