Structure of current and plasma in current sheets depending on the conditions of sheet formation
Cosmic Research, 2017The structure of current sheets created under laboratory conditions is characterized by a large variety, which depends substantially on the conditions under which the sheet if formed. In this work, we present the results of an experimental study of the structure and evolution of current sheets that were formed in magnetic configurations with a singular

Investigation of current-sheet microstructure.
AIAA Journal, 1965The magnetic field and the driven gas in a plasma accelerator are separated by a thin, dense current layer, provided that the time scale of the operating impulse is sufficiently short. Theoretical models of current-sheet structure usually involve the assumption that the propellant is a fully ionized plasma; whereas in most real devices, there is no ...

Current instability in reconnecting current sheets
Journal of Geophysical Research, 1977The problem of current instability leading to anomalous resistivity in current sheets in which reconnection is occurring is considered. The cause of reconnection is not considered. It is simply assumed that because of external forces, oppositely directed magnetic fields are pressed together on a time scale much longer than the time scale for the ...

The Double Current Sheet in Diffraction
Physical Review, 1947The electromagnetic radiation from an aperture in a plane-conducting screen is identical with that which would exist if screen and aperture were replaced by a double current sheet fitting the aperture. The current density $i$ is equal and opposite in the two layers of the sheet and is determined by the original tangential electric field $E$ over the ...

Abstract A current-sheet is an infinitely thin stratum of conducting matter, bounded on both sides by insulating media, so that electric currents may flow in the sheet, but cannot escape from it except at certain points called electrodes, where currents are made to enter or to leave the sheet.

Runaway electrons in plasma current sheets
Physical Review Letters, 1994It is shown that a runaway electron population accelerates along the main magnetic field in a Sweet-Parker current sheet. After a characteristic distance the entire current is carried by runaways. The thickness of this runaway sheet is much smaller than the original Ohmic sheet. The influence of microinstabilities is discussed.

Analysis of the heliospheric current sheet fine structure: Single or multiple current sheets
Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics, 2006Abstract When studying the heliospheric current sheet (HCS) local structure, it is not unusual to find wide HCS crossings. In this paper, we present one crossing that appears to have a complex internal structure composed of three parallel sheets and several possible HCS crossings that are consecutive and are on the order of minutes.

A review is presented of theories and observations of current sheets in the magnetosphere, emphasizing the magnetopause and tail current sheets.Theoretical models of the magnetopause current sheet can be divided into two types: specular reflection and fluid models containing no external magnetic field, and models with an interplanetary/magnetosheath ...
