Curvature and Temperature Sensor Based on Anti-Resonant Effect Combined With Multimode Interference

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2021
An inline fiber sensor for simultaneous measurement of curvature and temperature based on anti-resonant (AR) effect combined with multimode interference (MMI) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The sensing structure is simply formed by embedding a section of multimode fiber (MMF) and glass capillary between single-mode fibers (SMF).

All-Fiber Curvature Sensor Based on Multimode Interference

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2011
A fiber-optic curvature sensor based on the single-mode-multimode-single-mode (SMS) fiber structure is developed. Several notches in the transmitted spectrum of the SMS fiber structure are generated due to the multimode interference effect. The dependence of the wavelength shifts and intensity changes of three transmission notches on the applied ...

Curvature interference characteristic of conical surface enveloping conical worm

Forschung Im Ingenieurwesen/Engineering Research, 2017
The theory to distinguish whether the curvature interference happens or not is well established for the enveloping conical worm. Some important results, such as the meshing function, the equation of the enveloping conical worm helicoid, and the curvature interference limit function, are all obtained.

Measuring multiscale capillary curvature using laser beam self-interference

Optics Communications, 2021
Abstract When a parallel light beam illuminates a curved air–liquid interface, a group of self-interference fringes appears in the reflection field in the region near the critical point. A model describing the interface height and slope dependences on the fringe phase supports this observation.

Two curvature sensors based on no-core–seven-core fiber interference

Zeitschrift Fur Naturforschung - Section A Journal of Physical Sciences
Abstract Using the no-core fiber (NCF)–seven-core fiber (SCF) interference structure, two curvature sensors of Michelson interference type and Mach–Zehnder interference (MZI) type are proposed, respectively. The curvature sensor based on Michelson interference shows wavelength-modulation characteristics, the sensitivity is about −22.76 ...

All-fiber Mach–Zehnder curvature sensor based on multimode interference combined with a long-period grating

Optics Letters, 2007
A novel Mach-Zehnder interferometer based on a fiber multimode interference structure combined with a long-period fiber grating (LPG) is proposed. The multimode interference is achieved through the use of a MMF section spliced between two single-mode fibers, with a length adjusted to couple a fraction of light into the cladding modes.

Compact fiber-optic curvature sensor based on super-mode interference in a seven-core fiber

Optics Letters, 2015
A compact, low loss, and highly sensitive optical fiber curvature sensor is presented. The device consists of a few-millimeter-long piece of seven-core fiber spliced between two single-mode fibers. When the optical fiber device is kept straight, a pronounced interference pattern appears in the transmission spectrum.

Curvature and Temperature Discrimination Using Multimode Interference Fiber Optic Structures—A Proof of Concept

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2012
Singlemode-multimode-singlemode fiber structures (SMS) based on distinct sections of a pure silica multimode fiber (coreless-MMF) with diameters of 125 and 55 μm, were reported for the measurement of curvature and temperature. The sensing concept relies on the multimode interference that occurs in the coreless-MMF section and, in accordance with the ...
