Curvature Potential Unveiled Topological Defect Attractors

open access: yesCrystals, 2021
We consider the theoretical and positional assembling of topological defects (TDs) in effectively two-dimensional nematic liquid crystal films. We use a phenomenological Helfrich–Landau–de Gennes-type mesoscopic model in which geometric shapes and ...

Higher-order modified Starobinsky inflation

open access: yes, 2019
An extension of the Starobinsky model is proposed. Besides the usual Starobinsky Lagrangian, a term proportional to the derivative of the scalar curvature, $\nabla_{\mu}R\nabla^{\mu}R$, is considered.

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Semiconformal curvature tensor and perfect fluid spacetimes in general relativity

open access: yesJournal of Taibah University for Science, 2020
The semiconformal curvature tensor and its divergence have been studied for perfect fluid spacetimes. It is seen, apart from other results, that the perfect fluid spacetimes with divergence-free semiconformal curvature tensor either satisfy the vacuum ...

Association of Corticospinal Tract Asymmetry With Ambulatory Ability After Intracerebral Hemorrhage

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ambulatory ability after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is important to patients. We tested whether asymmetry between ipsi‐ and contra‐lesional corticospinal tracts (CSTs) assessed by diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is associated with post‐ICH ambulation.

ALS With and Without Upper Motor Neuron Signs: A Comparative Study Supporting the Gold Coast Criteria

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The Gold Coast criteria permit diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) even without upper motor neuron (UMN) signs. However, whether ALS patients with UMN signs (ALSwUMN) and those without (ALSwoUMN) share similar characteristics and prognoses remains unclear.

Weyl collineations that are not curvature collineations

open access: yes, 2008
Though the Weyl tensor is a linear combination of the curvature tensor, Ricci tensor and Ricci scalar, it does not have all and only the Lie symmetries of these tensors since it is possible, in principle, that "asymmetries cancel". Here we investigate if,

Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Advanced techniques for decomposing recurrent curvature tensors in Tachibana spaces and generalized geometric structures

open access: yesAin Shams Engineering Journal
This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of advanced techniques for decomposing recurrent curvature tensors across diverse geometric frameworks. By integrating classical methodologies with modern approaches, we develop novel methods that enhance the ...

Motion of pole-dipole and quadrupole particles in non-minimally coupled theories of gravity

open access: yes, 2010
We study theories of gravity with non-minimal coupling between polarized media with pole-dipole and quadrupole moments and an arbitrary function of the space-time curvature scalar $R$ and the squares of the Ricci and Riemann curvature tensors.
