Effects of seasonal changes in vegetation cover on the hydrological responses of the Chemora Wadi catchment to extreme rainfall [PDF]

open access: yesGlasnik Srpskog Geografskog Društva
The choice of the reference flood for the dimensioning of hydraulic structures is rather delicate, in particular in the not gauged basins. In these basins, the estimation of the project flood requires the use of predetermined methods based on ...

Urban Flood Depth Estimate With a New Calibrated Curve Number Runoff Prediction Model

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
The 1954 Soil Conservation Services (SCS) runoff predictive model was adopted in engineering designs throughout the world. However, its runoff prediction reliability was under scrutiny by recent studies.

Improvement of Sickle Cell Disease Care Mitigates the Healthcare Utilization Induced by Increased Prevalence: Experience of a Tertiary Pediatric Center

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Sickle cell disease (SCD) has undergone major changes in the last decades. Its prevalence has been steadily increasing and numerous advances have been made in the management of the disease. However, the effect in real‐life setting of these major changes is unknown, particularly in a Canadian environment. Procedure We aimed to assess

Secretory Phospholipase A2 in Patients With Sickle Cell Disease Hospitalized for Vaso‐Occlusive Pain Episodes

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Secretory phospholipase A2 (sPLA2) is an inflammatory mediator linked to acute chest syndrome (ACS) in sickle cell disease (SCD), a serious complication that can develop during an acute vaso‐occlusive pain episode (VOE). Plasma sPLA2 levels have been proposed as a potential biomarker for predicting ACS onset.

The Characteristic Numbers of Quartic Plane Curves [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Mathematics, 1999
AbstractThe characteristic numbers of smooth plane quartics are computed using intersection theory on a component of the moduli space of stable maps. This completes the verification of Zeuthen’s prediction of characteristic numbers of smooth plane curves.

Infant Embryonal CNS Tumors: Molecular Insights and Treatment Considerations for Contemporary Pediatric Neuro‐Oncology

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Embryonal tumors comprise the majority of malignant central nervous system (CNS) neoplasms diagnosed in children under 3 years of age. Compared with their counterparts in older children, these tumors exhibit distinct molecular biology and a more aggressive clinical phenotype, while their management is complicated by the heightened ...

An Elliptic Curve Random Number Generator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
A random number generator based on the addition of the points on an elliptic curve over finite fields is proposed. Sequences produced by this generator have passed standard statistical tests. As a result, the proposed generator is found suitable to be a random number generator.
