Lectures on Elastic Curves and Rods [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2008
These five lectures constitute a tutorial on the Euler elastica and the Kirchhoff elastic rod. We consider the classical variational problem in Euclidean space and its generalization to Riemannian manifolds. We describe both the Lagrangian and the Hamiltonian formulation of the rod, with the goal of examining the (Liouville‐Arnol'd) integrability.

Study On Normal Stresses In Composite Curved Beams Subjected To Unsymmetrical Bending

open access: yesEngineering Transactions, 2015
Based on the formula for normal stresses in curved beams of one material, the formulae for normal stresses in composite curved beams with general cross-sectional shape under complicated loads can be derived. The novel formulae presented in this paper can

Improved Strategy of Two-Node Curved Beam Element Based on the Same Beam’s Nodes Information

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2021
The curved beam with a great initial curvature is the typical structure and applied widely in real engineering structures. The common practice in the current literature employs two-node straight beam elements as the elementary members for stress and ...

Tendril Perversion in Intrinsically Curved Rods

open access: yesJournal of Nonlinear Science, 2002
This article deals with an inversion of handedness, or chirality, of a thin elastic rod with a certain structure along its axial coordinate, which the authors call intrinsic curvature. The inversion is known as a perversion phenomena, e.g., of a tendril.

New refined model for curved linear anisotropic rods with circular cross section

open access: yesApplications in Engineering Science, 2021
An asymptotic reduction method is introduced to construct a curved rod theory for a general anisotropic linearized elastic material. For the sake of simplicity, the cross section is assumed to be circular.

Campylobacter coli bacteremia associated with diarrhea

open access: yesIDCases, 2023
Campylobacter coli (C. coli) is a gram negative, non-spore forming, mobile, curved, or spiral-shaped rod organisms and one of the most common gastrointestinal human pathogens. Campylobacter very rarely causes bacteremia.

Novel static calculation approach for reciprocal structures assembled by Archimedes paving curved rods

open access: yesXibei Gongye Daxue Xuebao
In order to more efficiently solve the internal forces and deformations of the curved rod reciprocal structures transformed from the Archimedes paving, the reference point is defined on the curved rod element in this paper.

Characteristics of motile curved rods in vaginal secretions [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Microbiology, 1983
Motile curved rods seen in vaginal secretions have been isolated on Columbia agar supplemented with 5% human blood and vitamin K. Growth occurred anaerobically and in 5% oxygen but not in more aerobic conditions. There were two distinct groups of these organisms, distinguishable by morphology, biochemical activity and susceptibility to metronidazole ...
