Does salinity make a difference—Kidney anatomy of Saimaa (Pusa saimensis) and Baltic ringed seals (Pusa hispida botnica)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract As habitat salinity markedly differs between the endangered, freshwater‐dwelling Saimaa ringed seal (Pusa saimensis Nordquist, 1899) and the brackish water‐inhabiting Baltic ringed seal (Pusa hispida botnica Gmelin, 1788), we investigated whether this difference has resulted in morphological changes to their kidneys.

The Study of Factors Influencing on Orthodontic Treatment Difficulty of Impacted Maxillary Canine with Cone Beam Computed Tomography

open access: yesپزشکی بالینی ابن سینا, 2012
Introduction & Objective: Maxillary canines are esthetically and functionally important, but patients with impacted maxillary canines are perceived to be more difficult and time-consuming to treat than the average orthodontic patient.

Cuspidal and noncuspidal robot manipulators [PDF]

open access: yesRobotica, 2007
SUMMARYThis article synthezises the most important results on the kinematics of cuspidal manipulators i.e. nonredundant manipulators that can change posture without meeting a singularity. The characteristic surfaces, the uniqueness domains and the regions of feasible paths in the workspace are defined.

Rethinking brachycephaly: Anatomical implications and health considerations in lagomorphs

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Brachycephaly in domestic rabbits is increasingly perceived by welfare organizations as associated with significant health complications, particularly oral pathologies. Despite this perception, comparative anatomical research into rabbit brachycephaly is limited compared to that of dogs and cats, compelling an in‐depth examination of its ...

Dentin post: A new method for reinforcing the tooth

open access: yesJournal of International Clinical Dental Research Organization, 2016
Ideal coronal reconstruction of a fractured tooth is still a challenge for restorative dentistry. Many post systems are available but none of them have all the ideal biological and mechanical properties.

Descriptive, comparative, and functional anatomy of the facial musculature in cattle (Bos taurus)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Facial expressions can provide insight into animal emotions and pain, but no standardized system for assessing the entire facial display in cattle (Bos taurus Linnaeus) exists. The Facial Action Coding System (FACS), originally developed for humans, identifies distinct facial movements based on mimetic muscles.

Cortical bone distribution in the human mandibular symphysis: Ontogenic and morphometric approaches in archeological context

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The human mandibular symphysis concentrates multiaxial loads during function and remodels throughout growth, but the precise mechanisms underlying cortical bone shape during growth remain relatively unexplored. Approaches based solely on thickness or external cortical contours provide only partial insights and do not capture the functional ...

Preliminary wind-tunnel investigation of the effects of engine nacelles on a transport configuration with high lift drag ratios to a Mach number of 1.00 [PDF]

open access: yes
Wind tunnel tests to determine the effect of engine nacelles added to a low wing fuselage vertical tail configuration utilizing the NASA supercritical airfoil and a refined area ruled fuselage are discussed.
