It is known that the deformation of the apparent contours of a surface under perspective projection and viewer motion enable the recovery of the geometry of the surface, for example by utilising the epipolar parametrization. These methods break down with apparent contours that are singular i.e., with cusps .

Cusps or no cusps—that is not the question
Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 1979SummaryCurrent views of the significance of cusps to oral health range from an emphasis on meticulous recusping of the restored teeth to a recommendation of gradual prophylactic elimination of natural cusps by grinding.Cusps, their morphology and mutual arrangement are associated with masticatory function.

AbstractIn this paper manifolds with cusps are defined and their properties investigated. Manifolds with cusps are manifolds with boundary where the dimension of the tangent cone at points varies widely with that point. Examples are exponential sums, splines, and polynomials with only real roots. The investigations are motivated by numerical algorithms

The coalescence of a Hopf bifurcation with a codimension-two cusp bifurcation of equilibrium points yields a codimension-three bifurcation with rich dynamic behavior. This paper presents a comprehensive study of this cusp-Hopf bifurcation on the three-dimensional center manifold.
