Cell wall water shields stomata against falling leaf airspace humidity
Summary Plants lose water by transpiration through stomatal pores. However, it remains a matter of debate whether relative humidity (RH) in the substomatal cavity may fall below saturation and guard cells experience strong differences water potential driven by RH in the cavity.

ABSTRACT Plant glandular trichomes (GTs) are characterised by their ability to synthesise and store abundant secondary metabolites of significant biological importance. The medicinal plant Artemisia argyi exhibits a dense covering of GTs, yet the precise metabolic compositions and the developmental molecular dynamics of A.

ABSTRACT Cuticular waxes can form a hydrophobic barrier on aerial plant surfaces, which is essential for mediating plant‐environment interactions by providing protection against both biotic and abiotic stresses. In this study, a cuticular wax mutant (gl) was identified and characterised in Welsh onion (Allium fistulosum L.), exhibiting a functional ...

ABSTRACT Lipid droplets (LDs) serve as the primary storage site for neutral lipids in plant cells, with growing evidence supporting many additional biological roles, such as in lipid homeostasis, signalling, trafficking, inflammatory responses and inter‐organelle communication.

ABSTRACT The plant cuticle, composed of cutin and wax, is crucial for reducing non‐stomatal water loss and enhancing drought tolerance. CYP86A genes are key regulators of cutin and wax biosynthesis, yet the mechanisms controlling their expression remain unclear.
