Adapting cartesian cut cell methods for flood risk evaluation
Assessing the risks of flooding, and the effectiveness of mitigation strategies, is an important part of any river management strategy. This is improved greatly by the accurate simulation of surface hydraulics, and moving to two-dimensional simulations that can capture the dynamics of surface processes has clear advantages.

A Cartesian Cut-Cell Two-Fluid Method for Two-Phase Diffusion Problems
We present a Cartesian cut-cell finite-volume method for sharp-interface two-phase diffusion problems in static geometries. The formulation follows a two-fluid approach: independent diffusion equations are discretized in each phase on a fixed Cartesian grid, while the phases are coupled through embedded interface conditions enforcing continuity of ...

New approaches to edge passivation of laser cut PERC solar cells
Recently the development trend in the PV industry is towards much larger wafer formats. With increasing wafer area and the resulting increase in short-circuit current at the cell level, there is also a trend towards sub-cells (solar cell cut into smaller

ABSTRACT Background Sickle cell disease (SCD) has undergone major changes in the last decades. Its prevalence has been steadily increasing and numerous advances have been made in the management of the disease. However, the effect in real‐life setting of these major changes is unknown, particularly in a Canadian environment. Procedure We aimed to assess

Cut Cell Methods in Global Atmospheric Dynamics
In this thesis, we study next generation techniques for the numerical simulation of global atmospheric dynamics, which range from modeling and grid generation to discretization schemes. Based on a detailed dimensional analysis of the compressible three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations for small- and large-scale motions in the atmosphere, we derive ...
