Birch Leaves as a Minefield: Do Trichomes Mediate Neonate Caterpillar Site Selection?

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
We investigated whether neonate Drepana arcuata caterpillars select leaf sites based on trichome distribution. Specifically, we assessed where larvae establish on leaves, quantified trichome distribution on leaves, and tested whether neonates avoid leaf trichomes. Neonates preferentially established and fed on areas with fewer trichomes, especially the

Effects of non‐host traces on behavioural responses of an egg parasitoid to substrate‐borne semiochemicals in a multi‐herbivore scenario

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
In open arena assays, the response of the egg parasitoid Trissolcus basalis to substrate‐borne semiochemicals left by the host Nezara viridula was affected by the non‐host Spodoptera littoralis. Non‐host larval traces reduced T. basalis residence time spent on walking traces from gravid N. viridula females but did not affect responses to walking traces

Enhancing scar appearance: Results from a cosmetic clinical study on dexpanthenol‐containing silicone gel and massage ball in adults and children

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
This cosmetic clinical study demonstrates improvements in scar appearance associated with the use of a dexpanthenol‐containing silicone gel with an integrated massage ball in adults and children. Abstract Objective To evaluate changes in scar appearance and tolerability associated with 8 weeks of use of a test product comprising a topical dexpanthenol ...

Genome‐wide identification of olfactory receptor and odorant‐binding protein gene families and their roles in Heliothine chemosensory evolution

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, EarlyView.
Genome‐wide systematic annotation identified 81 odorant receptors (ORs) and 49 odorant‐binding proteins (OBPs) in the tobacco budworm, Chloridea virescens. Phylogenetic analyses revealed chemosensory gene diversification in Heliothinae and extensive lineage‐specific duplications in C.

USP30 inhibits wound healing in diabetic foot ulcers by promoting TRAF6‐induced ferroptosis and angiogenesis inhibition

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
High glucose upregulates USP30 in HUVECs, which deubiquitinates and stabilizes TRAF6. Stabilized TRAF6 suppresses GPX4 and SLC7A11, increases ROS/MDA/lipid peroxidation, and activates ferroptosis and apoptosis, leading to impaired angiogenesis and delayed wound healing.

Role of the tomato MARS1/ROUGH gene encoding a LYSINE‐SPECIFIC HISTONE DEMETHYLASE 1 in adventitious root and fruit skin formation

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
The tomato mars1/rough mutant displays enhanced root regeneration and rough fruits due to ectopic cell proliferation. The causal gene encodes a lysine‐specific histone demethylase that normally maintains gene silencing. Its loss alters histone methylation, upregulating several genes, including those B‐type cyclins involved in tissue‐specific cellular ...

Natural variation of wheat cuticular waxes in relation to drought tolerance

open access: yesФактори експериментальної еволюції організмів, 2015
Aims. The aim of our research is to investigate the role of wheat leaf cuticle in drought and heat protection by characterizing natural variability of cuticle components and revealing genetic and biochemical background of this variability in Australian ...

ZmMS1 coordinates ROS homeostasis, lipid allocation, and male fertility for maize breeding applications

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
The redox‐sensitive transcriptional repressor ZmMS1 coordinates reactive oxygen species homeostasis and lipid allocation for pollen exine and anther cuticle formation. Loss or precocious expression of ZmMS1 causes male sterility. Constitutive overexpression induces dwarfism and semi‐sterility. These findings enable flexible maize male‐sterility systems

Differentiating Inflammatory Breast Cancer From Lactational Mastitis: A Diagnostic Challenge

open access: yesJournal of Midwifery &Women's Health, EarlyView.
Abstract Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is a rare but aggressive form of cancer; hence, early diagnosis is essential. Although predominantly occurring in older women, it can occur during pregnancy and lactation, making the diagnosis especially challenging.
