Elliptical torus cutter tool path generation based on minimum distance computation
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2021In mould manufacture the elliptical torus cutters are used for their high cutting velocity, but the special geometry also brings issues in tool path generating and machining quality controlling. In this paper a guide curve tool path generating method for elliptical torus cutters is presented with the cutter location points computed by a minimum ...

Generation of Five-Axis Cutter Paths for Turbomachinery Components
Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, 1999A simple, yet useful algorithm is developed to generate tool paths with global interference checking for five-axis point milling of turbomachinery components. Based on the projected distance between the surface data and the cutter-axis of a cylindrical ball-end mill, interference between the surface of a workpiece and the cutter can be detected.

REAL-TIME CUTTER PATH COMPENSATION FOR HIGH SPEED PLANING
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2006Abstract This paper presents an experimental implementation of a novel approach for producing high quality machined timber surfaces at advanced production speeds. The focus of the work is on adjusting each cutting tool tip in real-time to compensate for inherent mechanical errors in the rotary machining process.

Generation of cutter paths for hard material in wire EDM
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2008Abstract A heuristic method for generating a cutter path for superhard material is presented. The cutter path should satisfy various constraints that come from physical reality in industry; for example, a constraint about undesired projections of the cut-off pieces, and that about vibration and deformation generated by the cutter.

A survey of cutter path construction techniques for milling machines
International Journal of Production Research, 1994Abstract Cutter path generation is a surprisingly active research and development area. Together with cutter path topology, it is critical to the validity and efficiency of cutter path generation. Here we survey the main generation techniques used and discuss the performance of each method.

Generating cutter paths for marine propellers without interference and gouging
Journal of Marine Science and Technology, 2008We generate cutter paths free of interference and gouging for manufacturing model propellers using a five-axis numerical control (NC) machine. Our approach is faster than using a general-purpose computer-aided design (CAD)/computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) system.

Development of styrofoam cutter NC machine for intricate cutting path
2017 7th International Annual Engineering Seminar (InAES), 2017This paper deals with the design, manufacture and application of NC machine for cutting 2D intricate path of plane styrofoam. The cutter uses nickel wire heated by DC electric current. The X and Y axis is moved using open loop controlled stepper motor.

Cutter Path Strategies for Shoulder Milling of Thin Deflecting Walls
Advanced Materials Research, 2014The main problem associate with the machining of thin-wall component is the wall deflection which resulting in dimensional surface error that leads to part rejection. The magnitude of wall deflection is induced by the cutting force generated during the material removal process which is governed mainly from the selection of cutter path strategies ...

Cutting path generation of linear hotwire cutter for VLM-ST
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2006Most rapid prototyping (RP) processes adopt a solid CAD model, which will be sliced into thin layers of constant thickness in the building direction. Each cross-sectional layer is successively deposited and, simultaneously, bonded onto the previous layer; eventually, the stacked layers form a physical part of the model.

Cutting Path Optimization of Pattern Pieces in Garment Automatic Cutter
Advanced Materials Research, 2010In view of the defect and shortage in cutting path automatic optimization of 2D pattern pieces in current garment automatic cutter, a new optimization method of computer is explored. If there is no cutting path optimization implemented by garment automatic cutter before cutting, some problems will be caused, such as too much unless travel and too long ...
