Automatic generation of NC cutter path from massive data points

Computer-Aided Design, 1998
Abstract This paper proposes methodologies and algorithms through which a three-axis NC cutter path can be directly generated from massive data points obtained with contact or non-contact measuring devices. At the beginning, a Z-map model is employed to set up mesh points in order to economize on the use of computer memory.

Tool path planning without interference for convex surfaces based on the optimal cutter orientation of the annular cutter

International Journal on Interactive Design and Manufacturing (IJIDeM), 2017
Most of the automobile panels are surface. Considering the limitation of machining the surface with the ball-end cutter, the non-spherical cutter is used more and more widely, but the interference usually occurs when machining the surface. Therefore, in this paper, the overcut interference produced by the annular cutter in machining convex surface of ...

Cutter Contacting Machining Paths Generation Method for Surface Flat-End Milling

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
In order to enhance machining precision of complex surfaces with a flat-end cutter, the generating method of cutter contacting (CC) paths is presented in this article. With the method of coordinate transformation, effective machining radius of a flat-end cutter had been deduced and the step-over formed by two adjacent CC paths were implemented.

Cutter Path Optimization during High-Speed Machining of Numerical Control

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
During the high-speed machining, cutter path of numerical control needs to satisfy the following requirements. There has no colliding among work pieces, fixtures and so on. The cutter path variation cannot too dramatically and the vibration should in the controlled area during the process. Feed speed can modify with path curvature variation and cutting

Using Interpolation Points to Rectify Cutter Paths of Five-Axis Machining

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013
When operating a 5-axis linear cutting command G01, the controller automatically inserts point data between two NC blocks in a linear distribution fashion, and then drives the cutter along these inserted points. If a simultaneous 5-axis machining is initiated, and CL data is directly transformed one-to-one into NC data, and then cutting is performed ...

Multi-cutter selection and cutter location (CL) path generation for five-axis end-milling (finish cut) of sculptured surfaces

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2013
This paper presents an optimization method for planning five-axis end milling (finish cut) of sculptured surfaces with multi-cutters. Compared to single-cutter machining, the application of multi-cutters can produce much shorter cutter location (CL) paths and, hence, reduce the machining time.

Path Planning for Circular Cutter Envelop Milling of Steam Turbine Blade

Advanced Materials Research, 2014
In order to solve the problem of poor steam turbine blade processing efficiency, and on the basis of analyzing the turbine blade surface and the existing processing methods, a model of circular cutter turbine blade machining is built. By comparing the tool paths of horizontal and vertical section envelope machining, choosing quasi-vertical cross ...

Cutter Size Effect on Cutting Path of Spiral Bevel and Hypoid Gears

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1997
<div class="htmlview paragraph">As some of today's bus industry is moving toward electrically powered, low-emission buses, very compact drivetrain package, the driveline design which links electrical motor to spiral bevel or hypoid gears can become a significant challenge especially under severe environment and certain design constraints.

Cutter path orientations when high-speed finish milling inclined hardened steel

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2005
The use of high-speed milling (HSM) for the production of moulds and dies is becoming more widespread. Critical aspects of the technology include cutting tools, machinability data, cutter path generation and technology. Much published information exists on cutting tools and related data (cutting speeds, feed rates, depths of cut, etc.).
