Mechanical specific energy versus depth of cut in rock cutting and drilling
Abstract The relationship between Mechanical Specific Energy (MSE) and the Rate of Penetration (ROP), or equivalently the depth of cut per revolution, provides an important measure for strategizing a drilling operation. This study explores how MSE evolves with depth of cut, and presents a concerted effort that encompasses analytical, computational ...

Effect of lubricant environment on saw damage in silicon wafers [PDF]
The chemomechanical effect of lubricant environments on the inner diameter (ID) sawing induced surface damage in Si wafers was tested for four different lubricants: water, dielectric oil, and two commercial cutting solutions.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Velocity, Depth-of-Cut, and Physical Property Effects on Saw Chain Cutting
A better understanding of saw-chain cutting mechanics is needed for more efficient chainsaw designs. The effects of varying key parameters such as workpiece moisture content, workpiece density, cutting velocity, and depth-of-cut, while established for other types of cutting, are largely unexplored and/or unpublished for saw chains.

Surface defects in groove milling of Hastelloy-C276 under fluid coolant [PDF]
This study aims to investigate surface integrity in groove milling of Hastelloy-C276 using coated carbide end mills under the application of water-based fluid coolant using different cutting parameters. Surface integrity was assessed by measuring surface

Chemotherapies such as doxorubicin can have toxic effects on healthy cardiovascular/heart tissue. Following up on a doxorubicin toxicity study in mice without tumors where nitrate water was cardioprotective (lessened toxicity), this study with tumor‐bearing mice undergoing doxorubicin treatment showed no negative effect of nitrate and nitrite on drug ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...
