Effects of cutting edge radius in vibration assisted micro machining

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 2021
Abstract It is important for vibration-assisted machining (VAM) to incorporate the cutting edge radius (re) at microscale machining to understand the tool-workpiece contact relationship and the underlying cutting mechanism. re is absent so far in the analysis of VAM conducted by various researchers. It is difficult to understand the tool edge contact

Influence of cutting edge radius on cutting forces in machining titanium

CIRP Annals, 2010
Abstract The performance of machining titanium can be enhanced by using cutting tools with rounded cutting edges. In order to better understand the influence of rounded cutting edges and to improve the modelling of the machining process, their impact on active force components including ploughing forces and tool face friction is analysed.

Influence of cutting edge geometry and cutting edge radius on the stability of micromilling processes

Production Engineering, 2009
The occurrence of tool vibrations in the micromilling process is undesirable because of its negative influence on the quality of microstructures. Due to the small dimensions of the undeformed chip parameter, the influence of the cutting edge on the chip formation and on the regenerative effect seems to be larger than in macrodimensions.

Influence of Cutting Edge Radius in Micromachining AISI D2

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013
Chip formation is a dynamic process that is often non linear in nature. A chip may not form when the depth of cut is less than a minimum chip thickness. This paper presents an investigation of cutting edge radius effect on micromachining AISI D2 tool steel via simulation.

Influences of Cutting Edge Radius on Cutting Deformation in High-Speed Machining Ti6Al4V

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
In order to obtain the influences of cutting edge radius on cutting deformation in high-speed machining Ti6Al4V, cutting temperature, equivalent stress distribution, the chip morphology and cutting deformation coefficient were analyzed in this paper. The results indicated that cutting edge changed the plastic flow of materials around tool tip and the ...
