Optimal Stochastic Control of the Cutting Modes on the Grinders

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1986
Abstract The problems of control algorithm synthesis of grinding technological process are discussed here, with stochastic properties of control object and technological limitations being taken into account. This task is effected by the optimization method "in average" using law distribution characteristics of control object parameters and ...

Ductile Mode Cutting of Silicon

2019
In wafer fabrication, most machining processes such as slicing, edge grinding, finishing, lapping, polishing, back thinning and dicing, are based on grinding or/and abrasive process, which always generate micro cracks and subsurface damage. In this chapter, theoretical analysis on ductile mode cutting of silicon wafer shows that machined silicon ...

Suppression of the B-mode in SC-Cuts

2007 IEEE International Frequency Control Symposium Joint with the 21st European Frequency and Time Forum, 2007
We have found it possible to suppress the B-mode of fundamental mode SC-cuts over wide temperature ranges by imbedding the B-mode in a cluster of C-mode anharmonics with choice of diopter. This work presents a variety of theoretical results and experimental data supporting the approach.

Dirac branch-cut modes

Bound states arising in Dirac fields are usually attributed to two kinds of features: domain walls where a real Dirac mass field changes sign, which host Jackiw-Rebbi states, and phase singularities in a complex Dirac mass field, which host Jackiw-Rossi zero modes.

Thermally Assisted Ductile Mode Cutting

2019
The growing necessity for advanced manufacturing technologies brings forth initiatives to incorporate thermal effects in micromachining of difficult-to-machine brittle material. While conventional heating methods exist in the macroform and are infeasible for micro-cutting applications, the fundamental concepts of heating are miniaturized to enable ...

Ductile Mode Cutting of Calcium Fluoride

2019
Calcium fluoride is one of the favourite optical materials in the advanced optics applications owing to its superior optical transmission and mechanical properties. While micromachining techniques have evolved to enhance the production process for optical components, this chapter will focus on the fundamental aspects to achieve ductile mode machining ...

Ductile Mode Cutting of Tungsten Carbide

2019
Cutting experiments are carried out to evaluate the cutting performance of tungsten carbide under nanometer scale chip thickness using a 5-axis CNC machining centre with CBN tools. The cutting forces are measured using a three-component dynamometer. Machined workpiece surface topography, chip formation, and tool wear are examined using an OMIS and SEM.

The First Cut—The Intrinsic Modes of Being

2019
Chapter 4 argues for the intrinsic modes of being (e.g., infinite/finite, necessary/contingent) as ultimate differences in Scotus’s expanded sense of the term. The first section begins with an account of what Scotus means by an intrinsic mode and the modal distinction.
