Performing Microscope-Mounted Y-Shaped Cutting Tests

Journal of Visualized Experiments, 2023
Y-shaped cutting has recently been shown to be a promising method by which to understand the threshold length scale and failure energy of a material, as well as its failure response in the presence of excess deformation energy. The experimental apparatus used in these studies was vertically oriented and required cumbersome steps to adjust the angle ...

Cutting performance of drills with three cutting edges (effects of chisel edge shapes on the cutting performance)

International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 1991
Abstract In this paper an investigation of the cutting performance of drills with three cutting edges is reported. Six drills having different chisel edge shapes were used and drilling tests were performed in which the accuracy of machined holes, surface roughness and cutting force were measured.

Cutting performance of Si3N4 based SiC ceramic cutting tools

KSME International Journal, 2004
Composites of Si3N4-SiC containing up to 30 wt% of dispersed SiC particles were fabricated via hot-pressing with an oxynitride glass. To determine the effect of sintering time and SiC content on the mechanical properties and the cutting performance, the composites with fixed 8 hr-sintering time and 20 wt% SiC content were fabricated and tested ...

YAG-slab laser cutting performance

SPIE Proceedings, 1990
The application of YAG-SLAB lasers operating in fundamental and low order mode to metal cutting has been investigated. The high beam quality and the relative insensitivity of the beam shape to average power variations make slab lasers strong candidates for high precision cutting applications.

Performance evaluation of short-cut Eulerian routing

Next Generation Internet Networks, 2005, 2005
We analyze the performance of a new routing strategy for all-optical packet networks. This strategy improves the Eulerian routing technique, a convergence routing based on a an Eulerian directed cycle. This new technique allows to use shortcuts along the Eulerian cycle.

Biomechanical performance of cutting edge surgical needles

The Journal of Emergency Medicine, 1997
The purpose of this study was to compare the biomechanical performance of cutting edge needles made of S45500 stainless steel alloy to Surgalloy stainless steel. The new high-nickel stainless steel alloy, Surgalloy, has superior performance characteristics over that of the other high-nickel stainless steel alloy, S45500.

Measuring Lateral Shuffle and Side Cut Performance

Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 2013
Lateral shuffle and side cut (SSC) movements are defensive basketball movements where movement speed is critical to performance. The purpose of this study was to compare SSC data obtained using timing lights with motion capture system data and to determine the most appropriate method for measuring SSC performance.

Research on the cutting performance of carbon nitride cutting tools

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2002
Abstract A new kind of superhard material C 3 N 4 has been developed in recent years. C 3 N 4 film is deposited on the surface of cutting tools by the dc active magnetron-sputtering method. It has ultrahigh hardness approaching that of diamond. A high speed steel (HSS) twist drill coated with C 3 N 4 film is applied to drilling hole process in ...
