A molar of mastodon recovered from the inner continental shelf of the north Pacific coast of Costa Rica is described. This found, represents the first fossil evidence of a terrestrial mammal that inhabited the continental shelf when it was a dry land, during the Last Glacial Maximun at the Late Pleistocene in Central America and the Caribbean Region.
