Association Between Familial Hypercholesterolemia and Risk of Cardiovascular Events and Death in Different Cohorts: A Meta-Analysis of 1.1 Million Subjects

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
Background and AimsThe association of familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) with risk of cardiovascular events (CVE) and death in different cohorts is controversial.

Stable Isotope Analysis as a Tool to Prevent Illicit Wildlife Trade of Songbirds in Brazil

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
Feather isotopes provide clear differences between wild and captive songbirds in Brazil. Combining multiple isotopes improved classification accuracy and revealed individuals falsely declared as captive‐bred. These results demonstrate the potential of isotope analysis to detect wildlife laundering in the bird trade.

Soluble ST2 does not change cardiovascular risk prediction compared to cardiac troponin T in kidney transplant candidates.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
BackgroundSolubility of Tumorigenicity 2 (sST2) is a novel biomarker that better stratifies risk of cardiovascular events (CVE) compared to cardiac troponin T(cTnT) in heart failure.

CVE Based Classification of Vulnerable IoT Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures database (CVE) is one of the largest publicly available source of software and hardware vulnerability data and reports. In this work we analyze the CVE database in the context of IoT device and system vulnerabilities. We introduce a real-world based classification of IoT systems.

Navigating Oral Food Challenges in Clinical Trials to Keep the Science Moving Forward

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The oral food challenge (OFC) has long been the reference standard for food allergy diagnosis, as well as to confirm natural development of oral tolerance. The utilization of OFCs has significantly broadened from its role in defining disease to defining participant eligibility, individual allergen reactivity thresholds and treatment outcomes ...

From variant detection to interpretation in idiopathic erythrocytosis: A structured approach applied to a clinical cohort

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
Targeted next‐generation sequencing combined with a structured interpretative framework integrating gene–disease validity, population data, computational predictions, ACMG criteria and structural modelling enabled prioritisation of rare variants in idiopathic erythrocytosis, highlighting the genetic heterogeneity and biological complexity underlying ...

Regularization Approaches for High‐Dimensional Cox Models: A Case Study in Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer

open access: yesInternational Statistical Review, EarlyView.
Summary In high‐dimensional survival analysis, effective variable selection is crucial both for model interpretation and predictive performance. This paper investigates Cox regression with lasso and adaptive lasso penalties in genomic datasets where covariates far outnumber observations.

Reassessing the organic carbon budget in the Murchison meteorite through an extraction–recovery mass‐balance approach

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract A substantial fraction of organic carbon in carbonaceous chondrites has long been described as “missing,” reflecting incomplete recovery and limited resolution of operationally defined organic components. Here, we present a quantitative reassessment of the carbon budget in the Murchison meteorite using an integrated extraction–recovery mass ...
