Problem driven CVE technology development

Journal of Network and Computer Applications, 2002
The need for a real-world driving problem to guide technology development has long been recognised. However, this does not guarantee the identification of requirements for technology development. This paper argues that a more systematic approach is needed for choosing and making best use of a driving problem for CVE technology.

Embedding Context of Use in CVE Design

Presence: Teleoperators and Virtual Environments, 2002
A consideration of eventual context of use is crucially important for the success of virtual environments destined for real-world organizations, yet it is frequently absent from accounts of the design of such applications. We describe how contextual requirements have influenced the design of a collaborative virtual environment (CVE) to support the ...

Echo: A Method to Improve the Task Performance of CVEs

IEEE Virtual Reality Conference 2005 (VR'05), 2005
Local-lag mechanism can eliminate short-term inconsistencies for collaborative virtual environments (CVEs). However, local-lag mechanism increases the response time and deteriorates the task performance of the system when lag is large. This paper first analyzes the effects of local-lag mechanism on task performance in a pilot experiment.

Multiple perspectives for collaborative navigation in CVE

CHI '02 Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2002
Drawn from empirical studies on spatial cognition, this work explores ways of dynamically integrating others' perspectives and incorporating different views into a single interface for a 3D CVE user. It also designs an empirical study to test the effectiveness of different perspective displays on collaborative navigation performance.

Persistence maintenance in CVE

2008
This project is directed at developing a persistence maintenance mechanism that is suitable for a large-scale collaborative virtual environment. In this dissertation, an approach with distributed processing and centralized storage has been proposed, and the implementation is based on CVE 1.0 system framework developed ICIS.
