Pollutant Removal Efficiency of Pilot-Scale Horizontal Subsurface Flow Constructed Wetlands Treating Landfill Leachate

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Landfill leachate contains various organic and inorganic substances resulting from the decomposition of solid waste. The treatment of this complex mixture is an imperative need for environmental protection.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Exploring Complex Patterns: How Cold Work Modulates Defect Evolution and Radiation Resistance in CLF-1 Steels Under Multi-Beam Ion Irradiations

open access: yesMetals
China Low-Activation Ferrite (CLF-1) steel, renowned for its excellent thermomechanical properties and irradiation resistance, plays a key role in the development of the R&D of the Chinese Helium-Cooled Ceramic Breeding Test Blanket Module.

An in-depth characterization of the major psoriasis susceptibility locus identifies candidate susceptibility alleles within an HLA-C enhancer element.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Psoriasis is an immune-mediated skin disorder that is inherited as a complex genetic trait. Although genome-wide association scans (GWAS) have identified 36 disease susceptibility regions, more than 50% of the genetic variance can be attributed to a ...

Optoelectronic Synaptic Devices Using Molecular Telluride Phase‐Change Inks for Three‐Factor Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic synaptic devices based on solution‐processed molecular telluride GST‐225 phase‐change inks are demonstrated for three‐factor learning. A global optical signal broadcast through a silicon waveguide induces non‐volatile conductance updates exclusively in locally electrically flagged memristors.

Machine learning and explainable AI for predicting antibiotics removal in constructed Wetlands: Key factors and management implications

open access: yesWater Resources and Industry
Antibiotics are increasingly detected in aquatic environments due to continuous inputs from human and veterinary sources. Constructed wetlands (CWs) are a low-cost and sustainable treatment option for antibiotics, but developing CWs for maximizing their ...

Every CW-complex is a classifying space for proper bundles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We prove that, up to homotopy equivalence, every connected CW-complex is the quotient of a contractible complex by a proper action of a discrete group, and that every CW-complex is the quotient of an aspherical complex by an action of a group of order ...

Optical Signature of Moiré Superlattices Formed by Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We discover optical signatures from bonded interfaces in twisted SrTiO3 moiré superlattices, including low‐frequency Raman vibrational modes and strong second‐harmonic generation, consistent with strong interlayer coupling inferred from cross‐sectional electron microscopy and ab initio calculations. ABSTRACT Moiré superlattices formed at the interfaces

Progress Towards the Tomato Fruit Cell Wall Proteome

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2013
The plant cell wall (CW) compartment, or apoplast, is host to a highly dynamic proteome, comprising large numbers of both enzymatic and structural proteins. This reflects its importance as the interface between adjacent cells and the external environment,
