Cyanamide-induced aplastic anemia

European Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 2005
To report a case of aplastic anemia in a patient treated with cyanamide, an alcohol-aversive drug. A 67-year-old man was admitted to hospital because of fever and pancytopenia. He had taken cyanamide for 6 months as an alcohol deterrent. No other risk factors for aplastic anemia were identified by interviewing the patient using a structured validated ...

Cyanamide: a new substrate for nitrogenase

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure and Molecular Enzymology, 1988
(1) Cyanamide (N identical to C-NH2) has been shown to be a substrate for purified Mo-nitrogenases of Klebsiella pneumoniae and Azotobacter chroococcum, with apparent Km values near 0.8 mM. (2) Reduction products were CH4, CH3NH2 and NH3 formed by pathways requiring 6 or 8 electrons: N identical to CNH2 + 6e + 6H+----CH3NH2 + NH3; N identical to CNH2 +

Photolytic hydration of cyanamides

Canadian Journal of Chemistry, 1968
N-Cyanopiperidines (1 and 2) have been shown to possess a n → π* transition band in the vicinity of 260 mμ and, in the presence of a dilute acid, undergo photolytic reactions leading to hydration products (3 and 4). The fact that the reaction can be sensitized by acetophenone demonstrates that 1 reacts through a triplet state. ET is about 76 kcal/mole.

Decomposition of the inorganic cyanamides

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1964
A detailed study has been made of the thermal decomposition of silver cyanamide crystals and powder, and also on the effect of pre-irradiation with y-rays, neutrons and fission fragments. The decomposition is a complex process, and involves the formation of an intermediate.
