Acute poisoning with gold cyanide [PDF]

open access: yesAnaesthesia, 1986
SummaryA case of deliberate ingest ion of an electroplating solution containing gold cyanide is described. Despite the use of an antidote, and supportive treatment for cyanide poisoning, the patient died after 13 hours. Sublethal cyanide and high red blood cell gold levels suggest acute gold toxicity as the most likely cause of death. Evidence for this

Challenges and Opportunities in Combining Ultrasound and Inductive Coupling for Energy Supply and Bidirectional Data Exchange in Bioelectronics Medicine Implant Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
In this contribution, it is shown that miniaturized nerve stimulation implants can be used in collaborative networks. Inductive links and ultrasound are combined to supply these implants with energy and data; the advantages and disadvantages of each method, as well as safety risks and possibilities for improvement are discussed and the best ...

Suspected cyanide toxicity in cattle associated with ingestion of laurel - a case report

open access: yesIrish Veterinary Journal, 2021
Background Cyanide is one of the most rapidly acting toxins affecting cattle, with poisoning typically occurring following ingestion of cyanogenic plants. Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus), is one such potentially toxic cyanogenic plant.

The Chemistry and Biology of the Tetrodotoxin Natural Product Family

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
Tetrodotoxin is a neurotoxic marine alkaloid, first isolated in 1909 from pufferfish and named after the biological order tetraodontiformes. Since its structural elucidation in 1964, it has attracted the interest of synthetic organic chemists due to its exceptional polarity, complex architecture, and important biological activity.

Origami paper analytical assay based on metal complex sensor for rapid determination of blood cyanide concentration in fire survivors

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Cyanide-based blood poisoning can seriously damage fire victims and cause death if not detected quickly. Previous conventional methods require laboratory equipment, which are expensive and increase the duration of the analysis.

MERCURIC CYANID POISONING WITH RECOVERY [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association, 1916
Poisoning by mercuric cyanid is a rare occurrence. The case here reported is of interest because of the hopeless prognosis, subsequently followed by complete recovery, and the unusual opportunities at hand for making chemical and physical analyses of blood and excreta for a period of a month and a half. History.

Comprehensive laboratory study on smoke gases during the thermal oxidative decomposition of forest and vegetation fuels

open access: yesFire and Materials, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigates the composition of smoke gases in forest and vegetation samples to draw conclusions about the actual smoke gas composition during wildfires. The focus is particularly on regions with extensive pine forests, like in Eastern Germany.
