Electropermanent Magnetic Muscles: Power‐Efficient, Low‐Voltage, Compact Magnetic Actuators to Power Wearables and Untethered Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This work presents compact, low‐voltage actuators based on electropermanent magnetic interactions. The actuators show good overall performance across key metrics and are implemented in wearable devices and untethered robots. Their ability to operate in different configurations and hold positions without energy input highlights their potential for ...

Soft Artificial Ciliary Brush with Integrated Haptic Feedback for Efficient Airway Mucus Cleaning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A fundamental mucus cleaning mechanism is reported, which utilizes both artificial cilia mechanical sweeping and suction‐based mucus cleaning. A novel haptic feedback interface for the artificial cilia provides touch feedback on tissue contact, enhancing operator control and safety.

Acoustofluidic Patterning for Improved Microtissue Histology

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Microtissue histology is widely used to characterize microtissue phenotype and morphology. However, conventional microtissue histology workflows are inefficient and time‐consuming. This work introduces a novel embedding technique that uses acoustofluidics to improve the efficiency of microtissue histology and reduce the time required for data analysis.

A comparison of six fingerprint enhancement techniques for the recovery of latent fingerprints from unfired cartridge cases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This work compared the effectiveness of six different enhancement methods on six different sizes of brass cartridges. One sebaceous fingerprint was deposited onto twenty-five of each size of cartridge to enable a statistical evaluation of the enhancement

Long‐Term Cycling Stability of Sodium/Sodium Ion Cells Probed by In Situ Solid‐State NMR Spectroscopy

open access: yesBatteries &Supercaps, EarlyView.
The suitability of 23Na in situ solid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy for long‐term studies of sodium/sodium ion cells is tested. Using silicon carbonitride and hard carbon working electrodes, local structures are analyzed up to the point of capacity degradation and cell failure.

Effect of n-Butyl-2-Cyanoacrylate on High-Risk Colonic Anastomoses

open access: yesKaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, 2009
We investigated the effect of n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (BCA) on colonic anastomosis under clean contaminated procedure (CCP) and bacterial peritonitis (BP) conditions in rats. Male Wistar albino rats (n = 80) were divided into two groups: CCP and BP.
