Grazing on Microcystis (Cyanophyceae) by testate amoebae with special reference to cyanobacterial abundance and physiological state [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We examined the growth of testate amoebae preying on Microcystis whose physiological states were different in laboratory experiments and a hypertrophic pond.

Expanding the toolbox for phycobiliprotein assembly: phycoerythrobilin biosynthesis in Synechocystis

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 176, Issue 1, January/February 2024.
Abstract Phycobiliproteins (PBPs) play a vital role in light harvesting by cyanobacteria, which enables efficient utilization of photon energy for oxygenic photosynthesis. The PBPs carry phycobilins, open‐chain tetrapyrrole chromophores derived from heme. The structure and chromophore composition of PBPs is dependent on the organism's ecological niche.

AS-1 Cyanophage Adsorption to Liposomes

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1982
Summary The cyanophage AS-1 adsorbs to vesicles of known lipid composition. The lipids used included: phosphatidylcholine (from soybean); monogalactosyldiacylglycerol, digalactosyldiacylglycerol, sulphoquinovosyldiacylglycerol, and phosphatidylglycerol (from Anacystis nidulans); cholesterol.

Survey of viral diversity in the sediments of South China Sea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016

Assessment of a Metaviromic Dataset Generated from Nearshore Lake Michigan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Bacteriophages are powerful ecosystem engineers. They drive bacterial mortality rates and genetic diversity, and affect microbially mediated biogeochemical processes on a global scale.

Reannotation of the Ribonucleotide Reductase in a Cyanophage Reveals Life History Strategies Within the Virioplankton

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Ribonucleotide reductases (RNRs) are ancient enzymes that catalyze the reduction of ribonucleotides to deoxyribonucleotides. They are required for virtually all cellular life and are prominent within viral genomes.

CyanoNews (Vol. 11, No. 1, February 1995) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
CyanoNews was a newsletter that served the cyanobacteriological community from 1985 to 2003, with content provided by readers (sort of a blog before there were blogs). The newsletter reported new findings from the lab, summaries of recent meetings (often

The CP12 protein family: a thioredoxin-mediated metabolic switch? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
CP12 is a small, redox-sensitive protein, representatives of which are found in most photosynthetic organisms, including cyanobacteria, diatoms, red and green algae, and higher plants.
