Respiratory Chain of Colorless Algae II. Cyanophyta [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1966
Whole cell difference spectra of the blue-green algae, Saprospira grandis, Leucothrix mucor, and Vitreoscilla sp. have one, or at the most 2, broad alpha-bands near 560 mmu. At -190 degrees these bands split to give 4 peaks in the alpha-region for b and c-type cytochromes, but no alpha-band for a-type cytochromes is visible.

New Approaches to Assess Food Web Stability in Aquatic Ecosystems: A Case Study on Baiyangdian Lake

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 8, August 2025.
A method for calculating the interaction strength of a phytoplankton‐based and a detritus food web. A geometric mean ratio of predator‐to‐prey biomass BCBPt$$ {\left(\frac{B_C}{B_P}\right)}_t $$ as an alternative indicator for food web stability. The changes in the stability of the BYD Lake from the 1950s to the 2010s indicate that two steady‐state ...

The role of larval density and food availability in life‐history traits of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 173, Issue 8, Page 892-902, August 2025.
We investigated the effects of competition (food availability and larval density) on Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae) mortality and development. Food had a more pronounced effect on mortality and development time than density, but density had a higher impact on adult size and lifespan.
