Assessment of tree fern browsing by introduced Sambar Deer in south‐eastern Australia

open access: yesEcological Management &Restoration, Volume 24, Issue 2-3, Page 137-144, May-September 2023., 2023
Summary Browsing on tree ferns (Cyathea australis and Dicksonia antarctica) was assessed at Mt Toolebewong, Victoria, Australia, where a population of Sambar (Rusa unicolor), a large deer species, is known to occur and compared with tree fern browsing at Tarra‐Bulga National Park, Victoria, where Sambar are uncommon.

Phylogenetic revision of Dennstaedtioideae (Dennstaedtiaceae: Polypodiales) with description of Mucura, gen. nov.

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 72, Issue 1, Page 20-46, February 2023., 2023
Abstract We undertook a molecular phylogenetic revision of hayscented ferns (Dennstaedtiaceae: Dennstaedtioideae) using four plastid markers. Our sampling represents ca. 40% of the extant diversity and includes the type species for each of the relevant segregate genera.

Spatial patterns and climatic drivers of phylogenetic structure for ferns along the longest elevational gradient in the world

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2023, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Many biodiversity hotspots are located in montane regions, thus, understanding the underlying mechanisms driving species assembly along elevational gradients is of major interest in ecology and biogeography. Here, we assess spatial patterns and climatic drivers, and the effects of clade age, on patterns of phylogenetic structure of ferns along the ...

Using eDNA metabarcoding to understand the effect of fire on the diet of small mammals in a woodland ecosystem

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 12, Issue 11, November 2022., 2022
Information regarding diet changes over time after disturbance is lacking for many animals living in habitats prone to disturbances such as fires. DNA metabarcoding is a versatile molecular method that allows simultaneous characterization of many biotas using taxonomically informative barcode regions.

Transcriptome‐wide SNPs for Botrychium lunaria ferns enable fine‐grained analysis of ploidy and population structure

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 22, Issue 1, Page 254-271, January 2022., 2022
Abstract Ferns are the second most diverse group of land plants after angiosperms. Extant species occupy a wide range of habitats and contribute significantly to ecosystem functioning. Despite the importance of ferns, most taxa are poorly covered by genomic resources and within‐species studies based on high‐resolution markers are entirely lacking.

Genes Translocated into the Plastid Inverted Repeat Show Decelerated Substitution Rates and Elevated GC Content. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Plant chloroplast genomes (plastomes) are characterized by an inverted repeat (IR) region and two larger single copy (SC) regions. Patterns of molecular evolution in the IR and SC regions differ, most notably by a reduced rate of nucleotide substitution ...
