A Prescription for Cyber Physical Systems

open access: yesProcedia Computer Science, 2015
AbstractThis paper is a philosophic look at(view of) the promise and perils of cyber physical systems. It is not a doom and gloom view of the systems (It is overview of the current systems and their technologies), we believe in the bright and useful future of the cyber physical environments (systems?).

Hierarchical Physical‐Cyber Encryption via Metasurface‐Encoded Holographic Keys

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Physical‐layer encryption based on metasurfaces has emerged as a promising alternative to conventional algorithmic cryptography by embedding security into physical processes. However, most existing metasurface‐based encryption schemes operate within single‐stage or static frameworks, where correct physical illumination directly reveals the ...

Cyber-physical system discovery - Reverse Engineering Physical Processes

open access: yes, 2017
Successful cyber attacks against cyber-physical systems require expert knowledge about the dynamic behaviour of the underlying physical process. Therefore, obtaining the relevant information is a crucial part during attack preparation.

Supporting Cyber-Physical Systems with Wireless Sensor Networks: An Outlook of Software and Services [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Sensing, communication, computation and control technologies are the essential building blocks of a cyber-physical system (CPS). Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are a way to support CPS as they provide fine-grained spatial-temporal sensing, communication

Sustained Self‐Powered Real‐Time Vibration Monitoring Through Integrated Nonlinear Harvesting and Energy‐Aware Wireless Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A self‐powered vibration sensing platform integrates a quasi‐zero‐stiffness piezoelectric harvester, synchronized electric charge extraction, energy management, and wireless ADC acquisition. Ambient vibration is simultaneously harvested as energy and digitized as information, enabling sustained real‐time waveform monitoring without external power.

Advances in Se Wide‐Bandgap Photovoltaics and TexSe1‐x SWIR Photodiodes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this review, fundamental properties and current challenges in Se photovoltaics (PVs) for tandem and indoor PVs and TexSe1‐x alloys for short wave infrared photodiodes are discussed. A case is made for the practicality of elemental chalcogenide optoelectronics, and a pathway toward resolving the key challenges in these respective technologies is ...

Causality for Cyber-Physical Systems

open access: yesCoRR
We present a formal theory for analysing causality in cyber-physical systems. To this end, we extend the theory of actual causality by Halpern and Pearl to cope with the continuous nature of cyber-physical systems. Based on our theory, we develop an analysis technique that is used to uncover the causes for examples of failures resulting from ...
