INFRASTRUCTURAL EXTENSIONS: Rethinking Infrastructure in Urban Studies

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, Volume 50, Issue 1, Page 256-264, January 2026.
Abstract This essay explores how contemporary urban infrastructure is being conceptually and operationally extended into new domains. Across five key arenas—elemental, care, more‐than‐human, cyber‐physical and the neurotechnical—we trace how infrastructures are no longer confined to traditional networked systems but instead permeate and co‐compose ...

Atavistic Genetic Expression Dissociation (AGED) During Aging: Meta‐Phylostratigraphic Evidence of Cellular and Tissue‐Level Phylogenetic Dissociation

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 1, January 2026.
Aging represents an atavistic over‐representation of differential expression in the most ancient genes and under‐representation in the evolutionary youngest genes for two multi‐tissue aging databases, and tissues covering skin, ovarian, immune, senescent and mesenchymal‐senescent cells. However, some tissues like brain and mesenchymal stem cells do not

SWI/SNF complexes modulate gene expression and the development of physical dependence to ethanol

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, Volume 50, Issue 1, January 2026.
The development of physical dependence on ethanol is an important component of alcohol addiction because dependent individuals experience withdrawal symptoms during acute abstinence. This study used C. elegans to identify gene expression changes accompanying physical dependence.

Astrocytic responses to binge ethanol in male and female mice: An examination of astrocytic glutamate transporters and density changes in the dorsal hippocampus

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, Volume 50, Issue 1, January 2026.
The current work tested the hypothesis that sex differences in alcohol's effects are mediated by astrocytes. Using immunohistochemistry, qRT‐PCR, and ELISAs, we found that nondependent, binge‐like alcohol‐induced increases in hippocampal astrocyte density were more robust in females.

The Dynamics of European Economic Systems Amid the Russia–Ukraine Conflict: A Cybernetics Approach

open access: yesThe American Journal of Economics and Sociology, Volume 85, Issue 1, Page 129-148, January 2026.
ABSTRACT This study analyzes the dynamics of European economic systems in the context of the Russia–Ukraine conflict, employing a cybernetics approach and advanced econometric models. Based on the premise that national economies operate as complex adaptive systems, the study investigates the impact of geopolitical shocks on macroeconomic equilibrium ...
