An Analysis of NGI Simple Shear Apparatus for Cyclic Soil Testing

1978
A numerical analysis parametric study was conducted to determine the stress and strain states within an idealized soil specimen enclosed by a wire-reinforced rubber membrane and tested in the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) simple shear apparatus.

Small-strain Cyclic Testing With Standard NGI Simple Shear Device

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2012
Abstract In the standard Norwegian Geotechnical Institute type of direct simple shear (NGI-DSS) test, the horizontal load cell record includes several false loads which do not represent the soil shear resistance. In the case of cyclic loading, the relative magnitude of these false loads increases as the cycle shear strain amplitude γc ...

Dynamic behaviour of Kutch soils under cyclic triaxial and cyclic simple shear testing conditions

International Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 2019
The dynamic behaviour of soils from Kutch (seismically active region of Gujarat, India) was explored under cyclic triaxial (CTX) and cyclic simple shear (CSS) testing conditions.

A Simple Approach to Performing Large Strain Cyclic Simple Shear Tests: Methodology and Experimental Results

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2018
Abstract A simple and efficient methodology has been proposed for characterizing the large strain cyclic simple shear behavior of engineering materials. The proposed methodology includes the use of a modified test specimen coupled with a digital image correlation system to measure the evolution of shear strains during cyclic simple shear

CYCLIC BEHAVIOR AND LIQUEFACTION RESISTANCE OF VOLCANIC SOIL IN SIMPLE SHEAR TESTING

Volcanic grains are porous, light-weight, fragile and have very rough surfaces. They show breakage of asperities and even of the whole grain. These characteristics generally result in a different response under cyclic loading in comparison with hard-grained sands.
