Haemodynamic responses to small muscle mass exercise before and after lung transplantation in end‐stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 111, Issue 8, Page 3604-3619, 1 August 2026.
Abstract Cardiovascular control during exercise is impaired in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The central cardiopulmonary pathologies in COPD might drive the local muscle vascular abnormalities. We hypothesised that contracting muscle perfusion and O2 utilisation improve after lung transplantation (LTx) in COPD.

Vision Transformers for Modeling of Nonlinear Heterogeneous Materials

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Volume 127, Issue 14, 30 July 2026.
ABSTRACT Multiscale simulations of nonlinear heterogeneous materials and composites are challenging due to the prohibitive computational costs of high‐fidelity simulations. Recently, machine learning (ML) based approaches have emerged as promising alternatives to traditional multiscale methods.

Shear Fault Formation in Granite Under High and Transient Co‐Seismic Strain Rates Unveiled by Ultra‐Fast X‐Ray Imaging

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 14, 28 July 2026.
Abstract During an earthquake a dynamic rupture propagates, causing fractures and permanent damage that modify the mechanical properties of the fault and its surroundings. Reciprocally, the energy dissipated by the mechanical transformation of the fault rock has a direct feedback on the dynamics of the seismic rupture.
