Creep properties and constitutive model of diabase in deep water conveyance tunnels

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The axial and lateral creep characteristics of diabase were analyzed based on compression creep tests. The nonlinear viscoelastic‐plastic model capable of describing the whole creep process was established based on the fractional derivative and damage theories.

Application and comparison of multistage triaxial compression test procedures on reconstituted Ankara clay [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
The ability to conduct conventional triaxial compression tests on multiple identical specimens is restricted by available sample quantity, sample homogeneity, as well as testing duration.

Modelling strong seismic ground motion: three-dimensional loading path versus wavefield polarization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Seismic waves due to strong earthquakes propagating in surficial soil layers may both reduce soil stiffness and increase the energy dissipation into the soil.

Failure characteristics and the energy criterion of rock with a through‐going joint under true‐triaxial unloading conditions: Insights from the DEM model

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The rock failure mode is significantly influenced by the contributing factors, such as the joint inclination, the initial confining pressure, and the unloading point. We found six typical rock failure modes after a large number of numerical tests. Abstract Excavation unloading damages rock masses, with preferential failure along geological defects in ...

A new slurry-based method of preparation of specimens of sand containing fines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A new method of specimen reconstitution is presented that is appropriate for element testing of sands containing either plastic or nonplastic fines. The method allows reconstitution of homogeneous, saturated specimens of sands containing fines whose ...

Mechanical Properties of Soft Rocks Subjected to Water-Rock Reaction and Cyclic Pressure

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2022
Studying the mechanical properties of soft rocks subjected to water and cyclic loading would contribute to a better understanding of the stability analysis of soft rock engineering under the conditions of storm and carrier dynamics.

PRENOLIN project. Results of the validation phase at sendai site [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
One of the objectives of the PRENOLIN project is the assessment of uncertainties associated with non-linear simulation of 1D site effects. An international benchmark is underway to test several numerical codes, including various non-linear soil ...

Analytical stress solution framework for lined compressed air energy storage chambers and its application to safe burial depth determination and supporting effectiveness evaluation

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
An analytical framework delivers a closed‐form stress solution for lined compressed air energy storage chambers, enabling the determination of the minimum safe burial depth. The solution quantitatively evaluates lining support effectiveness, offering a reliable tool for chamber design and optimization.

Dissipation of Energy and Generation of Pore Pressure in Load-Controlled and Displacement-Controlled Cyclic Tests

open access: yesGeotechnics
The amount of energy dissipated in the soil during cyclic loading controls the amount of pore pressure generated under that loading. Because of this, the normalized dissipated energy per unit volume is the basis for both pore pressure generation models ...
