Time-Varying Elasticity of Cyclically Adjusted Primary Balance and Effect of Fiscal Consolidation on Domestic Government Debt in South Africa

open access: yesEconomies, 2023
This paper investigates the impact of the time-varying elasticity of the cyclically adjusted primary balance (CAPB) and fiscal consolidation on government debt. The time-varying parameter structural vector autoregression (TVP-VAR) model is used on a time

Threshold of the CAPB That Can Be Attributed to Fiscal Consolidation Episodes in South Africa

open access: yesEconomies, 2023
This paper investigates the threshold of the cyclical adjusted primary balance (CAPB) that can be attributed to fiscal consolidation in South Africa. The CAPB framework is used in the threshold autoregressive regime (TAR) from 1979 to 2022.

The impact of product and labour market reform on growth: Evidence for OECD countries based on local projections

open access: yesJournal of Applied Econometrics, Volume 37, Issue 4, Page 746-770, June/July 2022., 2022
Summary We examine the impact of labour and product market reforms on economic growth in 25 OECD countries between 1985 and 2013, and tests whether this impact is conditioned by the fiscal policy stance. Our local projection results suggest that controlling for endogeneity of reforms (by the Augmented Inverse Probability Weighted estimator) and fiscal ...

Biosynthesized Silver Nanoparticles From Bacillus stercoris 2AT10: Synthesis, Characterization, and Antimicrobial Activity Against Paronychia‐Associated Microorganisms

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Paronychia represents an underexplored clinical condition with limited alternatives to conventional antimicrobial therapies, which are increasingly compromised by antibiotic resistance and toxicity. Here, we report for the first time the extracellular biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (BAgNPs) using Bacillus stercoris 2AT10, a marine‐derived ...

Mechanically Robust Mesoporous UiO‐66‐NH2/Nanofibrous Aerogel for Organophosphonates Detoxification

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 18, May 15, 2025.
A high‐surface‐area (900 m2 g−1), ultra‐resilient (40 kPa) metal‐organic framework (MOF)‐polyacrylonitrile (PAN)/polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) nanofibrous aerogel (NFA) sponge with mesoporous UiO‐66‐NH₂ enables ultrafast organophosphonate (OP) absorption and detoxification, cutting degradation time to just 3 min—offering a game‐changing solution for ...

Long‐run Effects of Austerity: An Analysis of Size Dependence and Persistence in Fiscal Multipliers

open access: yesOxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, Volume 87, Issue 2, Page 330-356, April 2025.
Abstract This paper provides evidence that austerity shocks have long‐run negative effects on GDP. Our baseline results show that contractionary fiscal shocks larger than 3% of GDP generate a negative effect of more than 5.5% on GDP even after 15 years. Evidence is also found linking austerity to smaller capital stock and total hours worked in the long‐

Welfare state regimes and social policy resistance to fiscal consolidations

open access: yesSocial Policy &Administration, Volume 58, Issue 5, Page 708-749, September 2024.
Abstract We study how welfare states regimes influence the effect of episodes of fiscal consolidations on the four main components of the welfare state: social investment, pensions, healthcare and labour market insurance. Welfare state regimes are associated with distinct social policy legacies that feedback into political competition by shaping the ...

Recent Advances in Nanomedicine for Ocular Fundus Neovascularization Disease Management

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 13, Issue 17, July 5, 2024.
Ocular fundus neovascularization diseases are prominent etiologies of visual impairment. Specifically, nanomedicine arose at an opportune time, which has paved the way to fulfill the effective ocular fundus drug delivery and achieve precise drug release control capacity, thus further improving the therapeutic effect.

Effectiveness and counter‐cyclicality of fiscal consolidation under compliance regulation: The case of the Stability and Growth Pact

open access: yesEconomics &Politics, Volume 36, Issue 1, Page 152-176, March 2024.
Abstract In this study we examine the impact of the European Stability and Growth Pact (SGP) on narratively identified fiscal adjustments whose prime focus is to reduce the budget deficit and compare the effects with those on the primary and the structural budget balance.
