Extreme weather caused by concurrent cyclone, front and thunderstorm occurrences
Phenomena such as cyclones, fronts and thunderstorms can cause extreme weather in various regions throughout the world. Although these phenomena have been examined in numerous studies, they have not all been systematically examined in combination with ...

Athens' climate according to Thorthwaite is stable despite warming trends. Athens' climate remains semi‐arid and mesothermal over 165 years. Strong increases in evapotranspiration and stable precipitation were found. Soil water storage capacity affects water deficits but not aridity type.

Performance Evaluation of the MPAS Model in Simulating Southeast Asian Rainfall Characteristics
This study evaluates the performance of the Model for Prediction Across Scales–Atmosphere (MPAS) in reproducing key rainfall characteristics over Southeast Asia (SEA) during 2000–2020, using the MSWEP dataset as reference. MPAS realistically captures the observed meridional rainfall gradient, with higher rainfall in the south and lower in the north, as

Seasonal Characteristics of Mesoscale Convective Systems Over the Philippines
This study examines how mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) over the Philippines are most frequent during boreal summer, while those in winter are longer‐lived and more intense due to cold surges and enhanced easterly moisture transport. Intraseasonal oscillations, such as the Madden‐Julian Oscillation (MJO) and the Boreal Summer Intraseasonal ...

An analysis of cyclonic dominant patterns on cold period precipitation in the mid-western of Iran [PDF]
Extratropical cyclones, characterized by their frequency, duration, and intensity, serve as the primary drivers of mid- and high-latitude precipitation across the Mediterranean during the winter and autumn months.

Extreme cyclone events in the Arctic: Wintertime variability and trends
Typically 20–40 extreme cyclone events (sometimes called ‘weather bombs’) occur in the Arctic North Atlantic per winter season, with an increasing trend of 6 events/decade over 1979–2015, according to 6 hourly station data from Ny-Ålesund. This increased

Abstract The difficulty of sampling zooplankton communities in situ has driven advancements in autonomous, remote sensing technology. The goal of this paper was to perform a gear comparison study testing the performance of one such piece of technology—a glider‐mounted four‐frequency echosounder—against traditional shipboard methods of measuring ...
