Photocatalytic Water Splitting on the Lunar Surface: Prospects for In Situ Resource Utilization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Water has been found in craters on the moon nearby locations which are illuminated >80% of the time. Photocatalysis uses energy from sunlight to drive chemical reactions such as water splitting to produce oxygen and hydrogen. It is a scalable technology that requires lighter equipment and utilizes resources available on the moon. ABSTRACT The discovery

Background Error Covariance Matrix Structure and Impact in a Regional Tropical Cyclone Forecasting System

open access: yesRemote Sensing
The background error covariance matrix (BE) is a fundamental component of data assimilation (DA) systems. Its impact on both the DA process and subsequent forecast performance depends on model configuration and the types of observations assimilated ...

Race-free and memory-safe multithreading: Design and implementation in cyclone [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We present the design of a formal low-level multi-threaded lan-guage with advanced region-based memory management and syn-chronization primitives, where well-typed programs are memory safe and race free. In our language, regions and locks are combined in

A Supramolecular Reversible and Anisotropic Conductive Adhesive for Flexible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Supramolecular network‐based nanocomposites are developed as a stretchable conductive adhesive for flexible electronics. It's as convenient as traditional solders and constructs anisotropic conductive and robust stretchable connections among diverse soft/rigid materials.

Improving Typhoon Predictions by Integrating Data‐Driven Machine Learning Model With Physics Model Based on the Spectral Nudging and Data Assimilation

open access: yesEarth and Space Science
The rapid advancement of data‐driven machine learning (ML) models has improved typhoon track forecasts, but challenges remain, such as underestimating typhoon intensity and lacking interpretability. This study introduces an ML‐driven hybrid typhoon model,

The extratropical transition of tropical cyclone Lili (1996) and its crucial contribution to a moderate extratropical development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The transition that a tropical cyclone experiences as it moves into the extratropical environment (known as extratropical transition) can result in the decay or intensification of a baroclinic cyclone.

Non‐Uniform Space‐Time‐Coding Modulation for Low‐Complexity Diagnostics of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A diagnostic method for reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) based on non‐uniform space‐time‐coding modulation is presented. Fault localization is achieved via amplitude‐only spectral measurements, eliminating the need for complex signal processing. A one‐to‐one mapping between harmonic components and RIS elements enables accurate detection.

Cyclone intensity categories [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The weather forecast centers in Australia and many other countries use a scale of cyclone intensity categories (categories 1-5) in their cyclone advisories, which are considered to be indicative of the cyclone damage potential.
