Cell types in the adenohypophysis of the hagfish, Myxine glutinosa (Cyclostomata)
Cell and Tissue Research, 1982The anterior pituitary of the Atlantic hagfish, Myxine glutinosa, was investigated by transmission electron microscopy. The cells of the adenohypophysis are arranged in follicles surrounded by connective tissue. Five cell types containing granules and one agranular cell type were identified. At the present state of the study the function of these cells

Hagfish (cyclostomata, vertebrata): Searching for the ancestral developmental plan of vertebrates
BioEssays, 2008AbstractThe phylogenetic position of the hagfish remains enigmatic. In contrast to molecular data that suggest monophyly of the cyclostomes, several morphological features imply a more ancestral state of this animal compared with the lampreys. To resolve this question requires an understanding of the embryology of the hagfish, especially of the neural ...

Systematic notes on some British Cyclostomata (Bryozoa)
Journal of Natural History, 1985Diastopora suborbicularis Hincks (1880) is a junior subjective synonym of Alecto compacta Norman (1866). Eurystrotos gen. nov. is introduced for A. compacta, in place of Microecia Canu (1918). Diaperoecia Canu (1918) is restricted to its type species, Pustulopora intricaria Busk, from Australia.

Chromosome elimination in the Japanese hagfish, Eptatretus burgeri (Agnatha, Cyclostomata)
Cytogenetics and Cell Genetics, 2008The modal number of chromosomes in Eptatretus burgeri was 36 in 297 (81.8%) of 363 somatic cells, 52 in 13 (30.2%) of 43 spermatogonia, and 25 (46.8%) or 26 (40.3%) in 162 of 186 first spermatocytes. The relative amount of DNA in a somatic cell to that in a spermatogonium averaged 79.2%.

First Report of a Mitochondrial Pseudogene in Agnathan Vertebrates (Cyclostomata: Petromyzontidae)
Journal of Molecular Evolution, 2018We report herein the characterization of a nuclear paralog of a fragment of the mitochondrial genome (a numt) in two closely related species of lampreys (Ichthyomyzon spp.). Although numts have been characterized in several vertebrate taxa, numts have yet to be reported for fishes in general.

Paulella, new name for a Bryozoan Homonym (Cyclostomata)
Zootaxa, 2009The recent unintentional creation of a bryozoan secondary homonym requires a change of name for the species affected. Gontar (2009) established the new monotypic genus Paulina (order Cyclostomata), with type species Paulina taylori, for a small, ramifying uniserial species of Oncousoeciidae from the upper shelf of the Pacific coast of the middle Kurile

Neurohypophysial-adenohypophysial relations in hagfish (Myxinoidea, cyclostomata)
General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1972Abstract No or very inefficient hypothalamic regulation of the adenohypophysis of hagfish is likely for the following reasons: (1) An extreme variation, inter- and intraspecific, is characteristic of the morphology of the pituitary tissues of hagfishes.

North Italian Bryozoa.—Part II. Cyclostomata
Quarterly Journal of the Geological Society of London, 1892The Chilostomata from the same localities were dealt with in vol. xlvii. (1891) p. 1 of this Journal. It is always unsatisfactory to describe Cyclostomata, as there are so few characters that can be employed in classification, nor are we yet sure as to the relative importance of those used.
