Cylindrical-water-resonator-based ultra-broadband microwave absorber

open access: yes, 2018
A cylindrical-water-resonator-based absorber with ultra-broad operating band at microwave band is demonstrated theoretically and experimentally for the first time. By utilizing dielectric resonator (DR) mode and spoof surface plasmon polariton (SPP) mode

Influence of Si Content and Milling Duration on the Microstructure and Mechanical–Tribological Properties of AlCoCrFeNiSi High‐Entropy Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Si‐doped AlCoCrFeNi high‐entropy alloys are synthesized by mechanical alloying to reveal the effect of Si content and milling time on phase evolution, microstructural refinement, and tribological behavior. A transition from FCC to BCC structure, significant grain refinement, and enhanced hardness and wear resistance are achieved, with the 4 at% Si ...

Analytical expressions for the electrical potential near planar, cylindrical, and spherical surfaces for symmetric electrolytes

open access: yes, 2010
The conjecture of Tuinier (J. Colloid Interface Sci. 258 (2003) 45) for the electrical potentials near a cylindrical surface and near a spherical surface under the conditions of symmetric electrolyte and large scaled radius are derived by solving the ...

Simulation of Grinding Surface Creation – A Single Grit Approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The paper presents an investigation of grinding material removal mechanism using finite element method. Understanding of grinding removal mechanism relies on the investigation of material removal by each individual grain.

Triple Junctions as Dislocation‐Like Defects: The Role of Grain Boundary Crystallography Revealed by Experiment and Atomistic Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Grain boundary triple junctions are an essential ingredient of the microstructure of polycrystalline materials. In this study, a triple junction is observed using atomic‐resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy and characterized. Computer simulations reveal that the junction has a dislocation character that is determined by the joining ...

Development of an automatic surface finishing system (ASFS) with in-process surface topography inspection

open access: yes, 2010
This paper describes an automated surface finishing system (ASFS) with in-process surface topography inspection. The acquired surface topography feedback is used to calculate the surface error and to generate the finishing paths for each level of surface

Spectral Domain Low- Coherence Interferometry for On-line Surface Inspection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We present an on-line surface measurement technique based on spectral domain low-coherence interferometry (SD-LCI), which can obtain a one dimensional surface profile with just one shot.

Design and Analysis of Compression–Torsion Coupling Metamaterials Using the Golden Section Method

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel compression–torsion metamaterial is engineered using inclined rods and symmetry breaking. To optimize its torsional performance, the golden section method is employed. The mechanical response of the metamaterial is validated through both numerical analysis and experimental validation.

Active Corrosion Protection of Sintered AA7075 Aluminum Alloy via Mn Powder Addition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
AA7075 containing Mn‐rich particles is fabricated via spark plasma sintering using AA7075 and Mn powders. Corrosion resistance is evaluated through dip‐and‐dry tests using 0.1 M NaCl (pH 6.0), and mass loss decreases with increasing Mn addition. Mn‐rich particles function as a source of Mn ions, and formation of Mn‐accumulation films on Cu‐containing ...
