Compound effect of EHD and surface roughness in pool boiling and CHF with R-123

open access: yes, 2011
This article is a post-print version of the fianl published article which may be accessed at the link below.Saturated pool boiling of R-123 at 1 bar, including the critical heat flux (CHF), was enhanced by modifying the surface characteristics and ...

Simulation of surface EMG signals generated by muscle tissues with in-homogeneity due to fiber pinnation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Surface electromyographic (EMG) signal modeling has important applications in the interpretation of experimental EMG data. Most models of surface EMG generation considered volume conductors homogeneous in the direction of propagation of the action ...

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

On Gears with Cylindrical Surfaces

open access: yesTransactions of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, 1957
In this paper, cylindrical surfaces, which mesh, with each other at one point at a constant angular velocity ratio, are investigated. In the first place, the possibility of this case is investigated, and it is clarified that this is possible when one of the pair is convex and its partner with line contact exists.

Capillary Effect on Vertically Excited Surface Wave in Circular Cylindrical Vessel

open access: yes, 2006
In a vertically oscillating circular cylindrical container, singular perturbation theory of two-time scale expansions was developed in inviscid fluids to investigate the motion of single free surface standing wave including the effect of surface ...

Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...

Surface quality of double-sided grinding Si3N4 cylindrical rollers

open access: yesJin'gangshi yu moliao moju gongcheng, 2023
In order to obtain the optimal process parameter combination of double-sided grinding Si3N4 cylindrical rollers, the orthogonal experiment method was used to explore the influences of the grinding disc speeds, the grinding pressures and the basic ...

Local hull-based surface construction of volumetric data from silhouettes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The marching cubes (MC) is a general method which can construct a surface of an object from its volumetric data generated using a shape from silhouette method. Although MC is efficient and straightforward to implement, a MC surface may have discontinuity

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.
