Optical trapping with cylindrical vector beams

2011 Functional Optical Imaging, 2011
Recent development of cylindrical vector beams prompts its application in optical trapping, which shows more effective and improved trapping efficiency in contrast to the traditional Gaussian beam of spatially homogeneous polarization. Using the T-matrix method and vectorial diffraction theory, we calculated and compared the radiation forces exerted on

Cylindrical vector beam sorter with spin-dependent spiral transformation

Optics Letters, 2021
Here, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a cylindrical vector beam (CVB) sorter based on a spin-dependent spiral transformation. By exploiting the spin–orbital interaction of the geometric phase, a pair of conjugated spiral transformations are applied to modulate the two orthogonal circularly polarized components of the CVB, which are converted ...

Optical trapping of nanotubes with cylindrical vector beams

Optics Letters, 2012
We use laser beams with radial and azimuthal polarization to optically trap carbon nanotubes. We measure force constants and trap parameters as a function of power showing improved axial trapping efficiency with respect to linearly polarized beams.

Focusing of high order cylindrical vector beams

Journal of Optics A: Pure and Applied Optics, 2009
We present the results of calculations of focusing high order cylindrical vector beams in the limit of high numerical aperture. We derive a form of the vectorial diffraction integrals for arbitrary radial and azimuthal mode indices and evaluate these numerically for a number of different modes.

Cylindrical vector beam generation from spun fiber

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
Recently there has been considerable interest in the generation of cylindrical vector beams for numerous possible applications in nano-biophotonics, optical imaging, the laser processing of materials and the generation of single photon sources among others.

Focusing properties of cylindrical vector vortex beams

Optics Communications, 2018
Abstract In this paper, following Richards and Wolf vectorial diffraction theory, the focusing properties of cylindrical vector vortex beams (CVVB) are investigated, and a diffractive optical element (DOE) is designed to spatially modulate the amplitude of the CVVB.

On-chip Tunable Cylindrical Vector Beams Emitter

Asia Communications and Photonics Conference 2016, 2016
We experimentally demonstrated a silicon photonic cylindrical vector beams emitter, consisting of a micro-ring resonator with angular grating and a resistive heater. The device is capable of generating and tuning azimuthal and radial polarization beams.

Cylindrical vector axisymmetric Bessel-modulated Gaussian beam

Optical and Quantum Electronics, 2009
Focusing properties of the cylindrical vector axisymmetric Bessel-modulated Gaussian beam with quadratic radial dependence (QBG beam) in high numerical aperture system is investigated theoretically by vector diffraction theory. Results show that intensity distribution in focal region can be altered considerably by beam parameter μ and polarization ...

Optical tweezers based on cylindrical vector beams

SPIE Proceedings, 2013
Optical tweezers based on cylindrical vector beams are studied theoretically and experimentally. First, we present the basic concept of a cylindrical vector beam (CVB), whose polarization is axially symmetric to the optical axis. Second, two theoretical modes to analyze the interaction between the light beam and the particle are introduced ...

Cylindrical vector beam Ytterbium-doped fiber laser

2018 Asia Communications and Photonics Conference (ACP), 2018
We demonstrate ytterbium-doped fiber lasers with cylindrical vector beam (CVB) generation using a mode selective coupler (MSC) as the transverse mode converter and splitter. Based on our fabricated MSCs with two different methods, i.e. without/with pre-tapering, CVB generation from CW, Q-switched and mode-locked ytterbium-doped fiber lasers have been ...
