Coherent beam combining of cylindrical vector beams for power scaling

Optics Letters, 2023
Coherent beam combining (CBC) of cylindrical vector beams (CVBs) based on an active phase controller is proposed and demonstrated. Experimentally, two pieces of spatially variant wave plates (S-wave plate) were employed as vector mode convertors for two individual 1064-nm fiber amplifier channels. When the system was in a closed loop, a combined output

Cylindrical vector beams through amplifiers

Solid State Lasers XXVII: Technology and Devices, 2018
Vector beams that carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) have become ubiquitous and topical in a variety of research fields. The quality of such beams usually degrades while propagating in space. Here, we report a noval technique to improve the quality of vector beams by amplifying these beams through birefringent amplifier.

Cylindrical vector beams for wireless power transfer

2017 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation & USNC/URSI National Radio Science Meeting, 2017
This article investigates wireless power transfer in the Fresnel zone using cylindrical vector beams. First, a generalized coupling coefficient between two circular apertures in the Fresnel zone is derived. From the generalized coupling coefficient, explicit coupling coefficients between two circular (focused or unfocused) apertures supporting Gaussian,

Dark-field imaging with cylindrical-vector beams

Applied Optics, 2006
Dark-field illumination provides an imaging mode that rejects specular light, thereby highlighting edge features. We analyze dark-field imaging by using cylindrical vector beam illumination with a confocal microscope equipped with a microstructure fiber mode filter.

Optical trapping with cylindrical vector beams

2011 Functional Optical Imaging, 2011
Recent development of cylindrical vector beams prompts its application in optical trapping, which shows more effective and improved trapping efficiency in contrast to the traditional Gaussian beam of spatially homogeneous polarization. Using the T-matrix method and vectorial diffraction theory, we calculated and compared the radiation forces exerted on

Cylindrical vector beam sorter with spin-dependent spiral transformation

Optics Letters, 2021
Here, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a cylindrical vector beam (CVB) sorter based on a spin-dependent spiral transformation. By exploiting the spin–orbital interaction of the geometric phase, a pair of conjugated spiral transformations are applied to modulate the two orthogonal circularly polarized components of the CVB, which are converted ...

Optical trapping of nanotubes with cylindrical vector beams

Optics Letters, 2012
We use laser beams with radial and azimuthal polarization to optically trap carbon nanotubes. We measure force constants and trap parameters as a function of power showing improved axial trapping efficiency with respect to linearly polarized beams.

Focusing of high order cylindrical vector beams

Journal of Optics A: Pure and Applied Optics, 2009
We present the results of calculations of focusing high order cylindrical vector beams in the limit of high numerical aperture. We derive a form of the vectorial diffraction integrals for arbitrary radial and azimuthal mode indices and evaluate these numerically for a number of different modes.

Focusing properties of cylindrical vector vortex beams

Optics Communications, 2018
Abstract In this paper, following Richards and Wolf vectorial diffraction theory, the focusing properties of cylindrical vector vortex beams (CVVB) are investigated, and a diffractive optical element (DOE) is designed to spatially modulate the amplitude of the CVVB.
