Expanding the substrate scope of a bacterial monoterpene synthase for the production of sesquiterpenoid and diterpenoid products

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
We have converted the only known true bacterial monoterpene synthase, cineole synthase from Streptomyces clavuligerus (bCinS, C10 substrate), to a highly competent sesquiterpene synthase (C15) with a minimum number of rational mutations. By comparison with diterpene synthases (C20), we were then able to bestow diterpene synthase activity on bCinS. This

Nickel and cobalt ilmenites-based catalysts for upgrading pyrolytic oil during pyrolysis ofwaste tires [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Pyrolysis as a waste treatment method has gained relevance because it can generate higher value-added products in addition to reducing the environment’s secondary pollution. In this study, the catalytic pyrolysis of waste tires was evaluated using NiTiO3

Populating and Staying with Methodological Surprise

open access: yesInternational Journal of Art &Design Education, EarlyView.
Abstract This submission shares methodological experiments, cultivated in practices of composting by staying open to a surprise in art and design education research. Openness towards a surprise reduces a need to control a defining momentum of inquiry and instead welcomes composted and layered unknowns through multisensory learning experiences.

Heterogeneity of iridoid biosynthesis in catmints: Molecular background in a phylogenetic context

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Evolutionary gains and losses of key biosynthetic genes likely resulting from multiple independent evolutionary events explain why certain Nepeta (catnip) species produce both the active, cat‐attracting nepetalactones and sugar‐bound iridoids, while others make only the sugar‐bound forms, and some have lost iridoid production entirely.

Biotransformation of monoterpenols upon pre‐treatment with oregano essential oil vapour alleviates downy mildew susceptibility in grapevine leaves

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Pre‐treatment of grapevine plants with oregano essential oil vapour alleviates downy mildew susceptibility by accumulation of monoterpenol glycosides. Abstract Grapevine downy mildew, caused by the oomycete Plasmopara viticola, is a destructive disease that causes major economic losses as most elite grapevine cultivars are susceptible to this pathogen.

Mechanism of Alfalfa in Enhancing Goose Egg Yolk Flavor: An Analysis Based on Metabolomics and Quantitative Lipidomics

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 2, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Organic egg production requires daily provision of coarse feed, fresh or dried forage, and silage to poultry. This study employed flavoromics, metabolomics, and quantitative lipidomics to investigate the effects of replacing 0% (CK), 10% (T10), and 20% (T20) of the basal diet of laying geese with alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) on the sensory ...
