Sesquiterpenoids from Cyperus rotundus

Abstract New sesquiterpenoids with 4,5-secoeudesmane and cyperolone carbon skeletons were isolated from Cyperus rotundus , and characterized by spectroscopic analysis. The structures were confirmed by synthesis from (+)-dihydrocarvone and (+)-cyperolone.

Minor constituents of the essential oil of Cyperus rotundus have been investigated. The three new sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (-)-isorotundene, (-)-cypera-2,4(15)-diene, (-)-norrotundene and the ketone (+)-cyperadione were isolated and their structures elucidated.
