Cystic lesions in the uteri of bitches and queens arise from the uterine serosa, myometrium, or endometrium and include: serosal inclusion cysts, adenomyosis, endometrial polyps, cystic remnants of mesonephric ducts, and cysts associated with endometrial hyperplasia (both cystic glands and "pseudo-placentational" hyperplasia).

This condition has been diagnosed much less frequently in the South‐Eastern Region of Scotland than in previously reported series. Only 5.3 cases per year were diagnosed in a population of 1 100 000 in a ten‐year period.

The objective of this study was to develop a reliable model for the study of the cystic endometrial hyperplasia and pyometra complex (CEH/P) in the bitch. Greyhound bitches (n = 15) were ovariectomised and allocated into three groups (Group 1, n = 5; Group 2, n = 5; Group 3, n = 10, including 5 used from Group 1).

ABSTRACTRapid abdominal enlargement and weight gain occurred in a four‐year‐old Rhodesian ridgeback bitch in late oestrus. The bitch was nulliparous. Severe cardiovascular dysfunction followed and an exploratory laparotomy was performed. A large, single, spheroid mass weighing 17 kg was located in the middle section of the left uterine horn.
